As a Bass player, I always figured if I was being noticed it was because I hit a bad note.
Once more parts get mixed in Iām not sure any mistakes will be heard, so Iād suggest letting it go for right now.

Back-up Banjo is uploaded now. Not super great but should fill in where needed mostly during the vocals. Mixer can hack it up or bury it however they want.
I have to be out of town the rest of today and tonight to play a couple places. Iāll check back in sometime tomorrow pm when I return home.
Have Fun!

yes indeed, fiddle, thank goodness we can laugh at our own obscurity. I always figured that someone who noticed me was probably another bassist, and they were probably checking out the axe.

Seems itās been something like an air raid siren going off - Iāve noticed a sudden hectic scramble to join the action. Not saying that the bass player is the driving force but ā¦

I think this oneās going to come together quickly. Weāve all been sitting on our hands waiting for my technical difficuties to get resolved.
In anticipation of recording, I strung up my mando with a new set of Nanowebs last night. Then I decided I wasnāt happy with the bridge position and started loosening and tightening the strings to adjust the bridge. I ended up breaking both E strings in the process and had to cannibalized another set. That really ticks me offā¦ but, the intonation on the mando is much better!
Well, what do you know, FedEx does deliver on Saturday. My parts just arrived. Now I just got to get everything assembled and functioning properly. If all goes well, I can get it setup this afternoon, go to my weekly jam tonight, and be ready to record tomorrow.
Hooray for Saturday delivery!
I got a mix put together with the gtr, banjo, vox, bass, and I made a backing vox for the chorus. I uploaded the backing vox track as well. In the working mix, everything is dry except for the aforementioned bass processing and I added a reverb channel for the vocals (only to the mixdown, the original tracks are dry).

I mixdown to a WAV and then convert to MP3 to upload. I might be imagining it, but it seems that the low frequencies are more prevalent after conversion to mp3. Anyone else experience that?
I gotta go do chores. Yaāll have fun.

Iāve got everything installed and my computer tower all buttoned up. Iāve got it so I can playback multi-tracks now, so Iām back in the mixing business, but I"m having trouble getting my mic working properly. Thatās a project for after tonightās jam.
Iāve been so focused on my computer setup, I havenāt had a chance to listen to your mix yet, Mike. Iāll check it out when I get back this evening. I was thinking, if you have time, it might be fun if we both worked on mixing this project. Iād be interested in sharing notes with you. It could be a good learning experience.
wav to mp3 version vexes me greatly. It could be my imagination, but I tried a bunch of different converters and I think the dbPowerAmp converter does the best job for me.
Good to hear that FedX came through. Hope you sort the microphone issues soon - sounds like life in the bush here, you fix the car then the generator gets a sticky valve, fix that and the waterpump breaks down etc etc.
The question is, once you get it all happening can you come up with a cool name like Snoop Kitty?
Just listened to Mikeās mix, itās coming together fantastically. Canāt wait to hear it with the instrumental breaks and the final mix done - I am totally in awe of the technology that means you blokes can be sitting over there in the US and Iām nearly on the other side of the world and we are making music! Brilliant.
Yes the lower frequencies do seem to come over stronger but bassists never minded that

That sounds like a plan. I always like learning. It would also allow us to be a bit more responsive in case we are busy. It would also free us up to try some different things.

That is pretty cool. If we were doing this a decade ago, it probably would have made news.
I guess it would be kind of silly for me to ask if you could throw down some didgeridoo on a track to really enhance that multi-national flavor
Sorry, but all Australian musos arenāt didge players, same as all American musos arenāt inbred six-fingered banjo players
A question for Larry - I had a look at doing a click intro. Would it be easier if you gave me the specs for the click (or can I somehow take that off your track with the click?
I wish I had six fingers, but I digress.
Larry is probably already headed out for his Saturday jam. I can never replace Larry, but Iāll do what I can to answer the question. You can record from one track to another, generally by setting the input source (but it will vary a bit with the software). So yep, you can pull the clicks off a track that already has them. Larryās āworking mixā has a good first generation (loud) click intro.
There are a couple vids on the Sync tones at Kompoz. If you havenāt seen those, they look pretty helpful:

Okay, I think I got my recording issues resolved. This soundcard I got is discontinued, so I got it for a steal, but it was an open box and didnāt come with much support in getting it set up. I didnāt know I had to manually set up a trim pot to get my recording volume cranked up, but I think I got it now.
The mix is sounding good. Your harmonies fit well, Mike. I think I might do some late night recording tonight. Itās always tricky when mamaās trying to sleep, but Iām anxious to contribute something.
Thatās pretty smart of you to figure out you had to adjust the volume pot. Who would have guessed. Iām glad itās working.
Thanks for the kind words. If anyone else wants to replace the harmonies in the range I did, that would be great. I just felt like putting a track on it to see how it would sound. I like the tracks others have submitted thus far. Dave has a good honest-sounding voice. The bass sounds good, and the banjo fits right in. I think itās gonna be a real good tune for fiddle and mando (and reso if someone is inclined).
Nice Tenor Mike! good voice.
I messed around with tweaking my recording setup for most of the night last night. It was actually daylight when I stopped. My new soundcard is really versatile, but it requires all the routing to be set up manually within their Patchmix software. I think Iāve got most of it figured out anyway.
I even got a mandolin track layed down last night, but Iām just getting my day going here at 1pm and havenāt been back to give a listen yet today. I suspect I may be able to get a better recording today, when Iām a little less tired and a lot more alert.
Jesse, since Mike tracked the tenor vocals, do you want to handle the baritone?
Well, my mando track has a few isssues, but it wasnāt compelely horrible so I uploaded it to Kompoz.
I just listened to it by itself, but I like it. I like the outro part, I bet it will sound good mixed in. I was picking alongā¦ the song trucks along faster than I expected.

Out of F that baritone Ā© will be tough for me. F is such a ālowā chord and F itself is a pretty low chord for meā¦notice on āI know You Riderā my voice parts with the F in there were ok on the high end but too low/broken up on the low end. So out of F that C (Baritone) is gonna be tough unless I can sing a high baritone. I could sing the tenor parts and can even do a low tenor out of A just fineā¦I will load a few vocal tracks (Both Tenors and both Baritones) up and let you guys decide which to use.
Coming together nicelyā¦I will try today and get my guitar part in time and uploaded later today/ tonight or tomorrow and I will work on the vocals and get them loaded up in a timely manner.
This thread/collaboration is moving along quickly now, I am surprised- Thanks for your help Mike and adding in vocals.

EDIT Hey KittyMix: If I am doing my break and doing the lead-in clicks and in time then please tell me where you would like for me to put the guitar break or would you just want me to record the break and you drop it in once we decide where it goes?
Yeah, I suspected this project would come together quickly. I bet weāre finished in just a few days. So, whoās picking the next song? Geoff? Mike?
I attempted the baritone and uploaded it. I also did a quick mash up to see how things sound, just layed my dry mando and vocals on top of Mikeās mix.
My mando ending was kind of a mistake. I just came up with it on the fly. I liked the idea but didnāt execute it so well.
