Netgrass Collaboration #2

Mike, I did mean “bass” - I am a very quick talker and that spills over in typing but I have serious problems when I type in typing the proper word for the meaning…guess there is a disconnect between my brain and fingers. Guess my pickin’ is about the same; my fingers won’t do what I hear in my head!

I am also left handed so that messes everything up - Done a paper on “left handedness” in college and how they are more likely to be dyslexic which for pun I misspelled “up” to “pu” in the paper and teacher gave me bad marks for spelling - “They are more likely to get their words mixed pu”.

Dave, so what you are saying that I read it right when I read it wrong

I have the same disconnect between brain and typing. In my previous post I typed “I misread the previous track”… what I meant was “post” instead of “track”, but for whatever reason I typed track. I am progressively getting worse at inverting letters when I type. For example, I just typed “invertign.” I hope it’s not a sign of anything other than my reliance on spell checking. Sadly, in addition to spell checking, I often type stuff that could benefit from meaning checking.

As far as bass goes, all I have is my old P-bass. I can throw a track down if needed, but I think Ozzy’s U-bass or your upright would probably have a vibe more in line with the tune. If I remember correctly, Ozzy was already getting some recordings going. The P-bass has a great sound, but it’s not gonna sound like an upright. With that said, if needed, let me know.

umm…now I’m confused.

Yep, Ozi is doing Bass (I think).

We’re still waiting on Larry’s parts so no rush yet.

Once we get the Bass down Ron (or someone) can cut rhythm

Ozi’s got the bass and Ron’s working on a guitar break, but I wasn’t sure about the rhythm guitar track.

I’ve been playing mandolin along with the scratch track a little every day. It’s been nice learning at such a leisurely pace, but I’m ready to record. Hopefully, my soundcard gets here quickly and doesn’t cause any more problems.

Yep, I’m on it!
Just spent last 2 evenings over in Canberra (first one bush dance band, the second contradance) so was great to play some live stuff again  - I usually go every few weeks as it is about a 1 1/2 hour drive each way and try to get two nights’ playing for one trip, but the only way to get to play with others regularly. The other musos all think I’m crazy to drive so far for it.
Stayed overnight Monday with a muso friend and we nutted out some more of the recording hassles I’ve had. Worked out the best thing is to monitor my bass input with headphones through the mixer but to listen to the scratch track from the laptop speakers turned fairly low. That way shouldn’t get any bleedover in recording the bass track.
Also worked out that in saving the recording if I select the bass track then go to Save Selection in the File menu then it will only save the bass track. Then I’ll be able to upload that track alone.
Boy this is a steep techy learning curve, so I hope this all works in reality.
Now I just have to practice playing some of the right notes at the right time, record it and upload it. :unamused: Will try to get this done in the next few days, depends on calls to do other stuff by she who must be obeyed.

I feel your pain, Ozi. I’m being forced to deal with all that tech stuff right now, too. It is a steep learning cuve, but once you get it figured out once, it’s pretty simple from then on, and to me, it’s completely worth the effort. Online recording opens up a pretty fun way of creating and learning about music, and you don’t have to drive an hour and a half.

So, who is doing fiddle? Or Dobro?

No banjo…not even any fills?

So did we decide if we can or can not post this on soundclick due to copyright issues?

Mike, you called me Dave earlier (I think). Oh and my priorities have only changed slightly over the past two weeks as I wanted to “ease” into the new position and go full-time effort on Monday…I have currently been hanging out in a motel in Gadsden Alabama for the past few days, momma wanted me to come with her as this hospital she is over needed her to come down for a few days…so I’m just picking guitar and fishing - have boat will travel, especially when all the accommodations and food are free!

Jesse, if I called you Dave, my apologies. I like Dave, so that’s not all bad.
I was just giving you a hard time about re-joining the working world. It sounds like you are enjoying it. That’s a good thing.

Gadsden Alabama, huh? They got that road construction cleaned up yet?

We hauled the concrete for the northbound side.

I came down 65 then over above Birmingham so I probably missed it… the way you would come from Knoxville…not traveled much around town except to eat, don’t have to as I am staying at the Hilton right on the river, boat ramp is actually just up the street so I don’t have to go far…hell I had to use the bathroom and pulled the boat right to parking lot of the HIlton and walked into my room.

Momma does travel about 40% of the time, she is over 14 hospitals in what they call the “TN region”, so it’s nice to pull the boat and fish while she has to work…I have been to 17 different countries all over the world and most states besides for Cali, I enjoy taking what I consider these “mini vacations” from time to time to see what “other folks town” has going on. Last night we went to this pub that plays jazz …for the record the guys were absolute hacks…I don’t play jazz butt could give the guitarist a run for his money!

No soundcard today. I got my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

You get mail deliveries Saturday? :open_mouth:

It’s about 10:00pm on Thursday night over here in the US. You guys are probably half way through the day on Friday aren’t ya?

OK, yes. The time of Larry’s post was our local time here (Fri a.m.) , not your time (as I was thinking). Stoopid here just wasn’t thinking straight!

Hey Ozi, could you do me a favor and find the closing numbers for some US stocks that moved alot on Friday (that’s past-tense for you, future for me)? I’ll go make the appropriate moves and I’ll split the profits with you 50/50!
Oh and by the way, we do get mail deliveries on Saturday.

Now, now, Mike.
Don’t you know the object of buying stock is a long term investment to help secure an ongoing stable base for your country’s economic well-being. It sounds as if you regard it as a short term gamble for a fast payoff - as such I must decline to be a party to any such socially irresponsible actions… where would your economy be if other folk thought like you?
Oh yeah sorry, I forgot… L.Ron… etc etc … hmmmmmm… how about 60/40?
At least it is now cheaper for me to buy gear from the US, I knew there was an up somewhere there.

BTW I am working on the bass track right now, just a bit concerned about sending something not up to your standards.

Bass track is up - hope I got the tech stuff right. Feedback welcome from you mob. Tried not too crowd it too much with lots of notes to leave lots of space for you maestros, but if you want a different take on it feel free to say so.

Nice job Ozz. I like sound of the U-Bass. It has a fat attack and a quick decay. I like the balance of the sound as you get up the neck at the end (bet it sound good mixed). I am curious to hear how it mixes in. Since Larry is still out this morning (Friday AM here) I might see if I can pull down the tracks later on and stick them together just for a listen. Even if I do get it done, it’ll be a bit, as I haven’t done it before.

Thanks for the kind words, Mike, I too will be interested to hear how it mixes.
BTW - L.Ron closed at a low price if you are thinking of getting in on it… and what the hell, you can keep the whole 100%.

Gave your track a listen, ozi. Seems like it will work fine, but it’s hard to get a feel for your playing without the backing track.

I’m anxiously waiting for my soundcard, but the FedEx man doesn’t usually get to me until about 4pm (I believe that’s 6pm Saturday, Wee Jasper time. These international projects get confusing!)
