Netgrass Collaboration #3

I thought Mix 3 was better, too, Shawn. I think I had your track slightly out of sync on Mix 2. Without a sync tone, I have to estimate where your track starts and sometimes I’m not the best estimator.

I have a small section of your rhythm guitar in Mix3. Under the B section of my mandolin break. I left the broken down beginning like it was before.

Ahhh, I see what the sync tone is for now. If I need to use that, let me know. Although I’m pretty sure it was my playing that was off.

I hear that rhythm in there, if you don’t think it sounds right feel free to scrap it. I like how you start it out and everything kind of builds. Sounds good.

Ok, first - I never knew there was lyrics to this - pretty amusing to say the least…thanks Dianne!

I got the D18 back today, has flimsy strings on it but none the less I decided to throw down a quick recording to keep you guys from kicking me out of the project so I hae uploaded to kompoz:

The sound is good but not as deep as I like it for my ear, but I’d hate to take off a new set of strings without at least using them some so it is what it is…D18 sounds pretty good hunh!

Shawn, good to see you step up brother- sounds good man…mighty fine pickin’ you have got gone on there!

Haha! Nice Jesse, that’s what it’s suppose to sound like! The D18 sounds good!

I like the whole thing, but I’m really digging that B part. So much more melodic than mine. I may have to up the ante!

I should have let my last note ring out to make it flow back into the mix and make it a little more seamless. I just cut it off, oh well, next time.

New mix up:

I’m really not trying to hog up all the space, but I threw in another mando break to separate the two guitars.

Nice pickin’, fellas!

Larry,

You can hog up as much as you want!

Well I guess we have no other takers on any other instruments?

May have to drag out my banjo and flat pick it on it! Don’t make me fellas, someone needs to step up or you may hear me on banjer!

I can start working on a guitar improv also, but it would be awhile as as mentioned I ma off to camp for two weeks in a couple of days, so it would be awhile before i record it.

After tonight, I won’t have much time for our project until Monday either, so we can finish things up next week. My second mando break is kind of a half-baked idea anyway. Maybe I can work out some of the bum notes by then.

Remember, If we need to add extra sections, we can do that, so take as many breaks as you guys want. Maybe we can do an 8 minute Cuckoo’s Nest.

Hey there - been off the forum for quite a while. Checked occasionally but White Freightliner wasn’t happening yet. Got tied up in other stuff, school holidays (busy with cave tours), getting a new bush band off the ground. Just decided to check in and wow, you blokes have been hard at it with Cuckoo’s Nest. Pretty tune, never heard it before.
If you’re interested I’ll lay down a bass track sometime in the next few days - if you don’t like it can just leave it out of the mix

Hey ozi, feel free to jump right in. I was hoping someone would replace my simulated bass line.

I just got back from festivaling today. The car didn’t want to start last night, so we were forced to stay an extra night. Worked out good, though, 'cause last night was the best of the parking lot picking.

After I unload the car and wash the wood smoke out of my clothes I’ll be ready to start recording again.

Thanks for the invite Larry. I’ve just listened to the mix on good speakers and your bass line is spot on - great job! It is pretty well exactly as I would play it for this tune and I’ll feel a bit of a fraud redoing it, however the bass should have a deeper bottom feel than the guitar so I’ll do it anyway as soon as I have time and quiet at home.

Blessed are those that don’t run a weekend business and can go festivalling!

Good deal, ozi. I’m working on a second mando break, but it’s gonna take a few days to get it down.

Magnoliafest was a blast, but I always come away humbled by how many good pickers are out there. I did manage to lose my Wegen (my second one this year), but at least it wasn’t a Blue Chip.

I’d be embarrassed to admit how many hours it took me to get it down, but I finally managed to record a second mando break:

Anybody else working on any tracks? Where’s the banjo, Oldhat?

Sorry Larry, had loads on my plate and no chance yet to do the bass track - it is still on my to do asap list :unamused:
Hey you’ve put some work into that second break - lots of notes there!

Hey Larry what say you to the idea that we throw in some of Yonder MT String Bands lyrics into the part you just stuck your second mando break in…search youtube for it…some words are “make me come on slowly”…I think just one verse would do somewhere verses another break. I can work out the vocals then we could add in harmonies.

So it would go Mando-Guitar-Verse-Mando - Guitar or Mando-Guitar-Verse-Guitar-Mando.

Nice break by the way, that is something I really have to work on is coming up with my own stuff like that…good job dude!

Oldhat

Okay, I rearranged the sections to make room for a vocal verse in the middle, but I have no idea what Jeff is singing in the Yonder version. Remember, we can add or remove as many verses as we want, so we’re not locked into any format yet.

Well he is basing it around these lyrics:

Dream a little dream of you
With your golden hair and your eyes so blue
Like a song Tchikovski played
That makes me come on slowly

Your raven hair that makes me mad
It’s your insane smile that makes me glad
It’s the California dreamin’
And the Mississippi smile
That makes me come on slowly

Trying to be real cool and soft
So I won’t take a chance of turning you off
Watchin’ how you’re operating when the chips are down
That makes me come on slowly

It isn’t that I wanna wanna make it all come true
Baby if I had a chance to be in love with you
Watchin’ how you’re operating when the chips are down
That makes me come on slowly

For the record I think it’s pretty cool that we all started learning this melody at about the same time (I had a few days jump on you guys) and we managed to record our first parts within what, a week or so? I guess it takes me about 4 hours a day for about three days straight from scratch and viewing tabledit files to get the song down to play it, then maybe another 30-40 times playing it to get it up to speed, then I pretty much have it…you guys about at the same learning curve?

Now let me go see if I can sing out of D…a key I tend to not really like.

Oldhat

Interesting. I wonder where those lyrics came from? They are a lot different than the lyrics Diane has.

So… are you whipping up some vocals, oldhat?

Nope but I will, been busy with “playing”…went to Ohio to hunt for 10 days, then had a military buddy fly in last week for 5 days and done some work around the house today…next week I am off to Florida to golf for a week, so I guess I better throw down these lyrics…will get them within a day or so…I actually forgot all about it! :astonished:

Do you guys have any idea when the next colab will happen? Would love to be part of it!
