I’ve been getting into this video lately. I think Thile/Daves is my favorite way for Thile to perform right now. Love those bass runs that Daves adds and the great energy from both guys.

Thile and Daves are awesome together. I need to support their efforts by buying their music. I have listened to them many times on uTube. They have some great performances on there. Daves is a monster. Thile’s not to shabby either.

I enjoyed those all immensely, The one I liked the best was Sawing on the strings and it was the music but more than that it was the good time they were having playing . You can listen but to see their faces and none of it was put on. If heaven had of come they would have to wait on the ending . The smiles are it . WOW! I think I had a smile like that when we had oue Christmas party in 2013. I sure enjoyed and I played till I could not any more . Keep them strings humming brothers and sisters.

I’ve been jamming out to this one lately. Such a great song and does a pretty decent job crossing over into grass.

Fiddler takes a nice break!

Sounds like a Waylon Jennings song.

Watched this band on song of the mountains last night and several personnel have changed. Different fiddle and Bass players at the least.

That’s a cool song. The last time I saw the Travelin McCourys they did a really nice bluegrass version with Jason Carter on vocals.

Waylon covered this song and made it known. Actually a Steve Young song.

My favourite playalong at the moment is this one (being mainly a fiddle/geetar player it has huge appeal … be warned though its addictive and there is over an hour of it …

That’s some good playing. It looks like the guy on the left is playing a voyage air guitar. It sounds pretty good for a travel guitar.

I really like this version of “Big Spike Hammer”. Nice guitar work (lead and rhythm) in this one.

Good stuff, guys! I’m constantly checking out videos on Youtube, but still find stuff here I never would stumble upon by myself.

Here is one I have been playing to on my daily routine. I pretty much worked out the guitar parts, vocals, lead, etc and have added this one into my repertoire for performing if I get together with folks and play. I looked through a lot of videos of Angeline the Baker to find a version that was pretty comfortable to work to.

I’ve seen the lyrics printed before, but I don’t remember ever hearing it sung. Pretty neat!

Yeah Larry, I had never heard it sung before either. As a matter of fact when I started learning Angeline the Baker I did not even know there were lyrics until we done the Steven Foster song (Hard Times Come Again No More). In doing some research I found the lyrics to Angeline the Baker and I knew a “half-arsed” guitar version of Angeline and decided to learn at least a verse in order to use it to break up the monotony of a jam by surprising everyone with some vocals. From that point finding recorded versions to work from was pretty difficult, I only found a few, and this one seemed to be more “my style” so I went with it!

The lyrics they sing in this are sort of a hybrid or parody of the original. Here is what wiki had to say:

Another odd one that I play is “Back Up and Push”…there are lyrics to that also and a few versions out on the internet.

And since you can put 2 and 2 together by me mentioning Back Up and Push and Angeline the Baker together in a single post post than one should logically deduct that I learned both from Steve Kaufman’s book.

In my worship posse, I have a drummer who comes from a metal background. I was surprised when he requested doing a version of the Ferlin Husky’s “On the wings of a dove.” We are planning on starting it off pretty straight like Ferlin did it (complete with echo singing and claps on 2 &3). Later in the song we are going to be breaking it down to a modern, heavy feel. I’m not sure how that will work out, but it will be fun to try. Anyway, the reason I am posting it is this. After listening to it a few times to get the chord progression down I focused on the lead hollow body GTR lines… holy smokes!!! The dude is throwing down some tasty licks all all throughout. Just effortless. I figured I’d post it and maybe someone else would get a smile out of it.

Whoa, you went way back on us Mike! Everything about that performance is silky smooth. Those were some cool cats back then.

I know this is an old thread, but I’m a new member,so just discovered it.
I have been playing along and jamming with these videos that “vivatones66” has been posting for a while.
Put your headsets on and enjoy!
Here’s a sample of one of the videos.
