What are y'all up to?

Praying now, Ben

Adding to my prayers @BanjoBen. I tripped and landed badly fracturing a small small bone in my hand and damaging my shoulder. I was unable to work and in cast for six months and a further six months in physiotherapy . It was during that layoff I discovered the banjo decided to learn to play. It was painful at first

Since you’ll be recovering for a while is there a chance that your sisters will be taking up the teaching mantel?

Will do. That rotator cuff is tough, because if it’s not a really large, obvious tear, the orthopedist is not going to do much more than tell you to exercise and maybe offer you a shot of cortisone. When I went through this about a year ago, the pain just to lift my arm was excruciating. But the shot got me through about six weeks, and I think the exercises helped, although there is still some occasional residual pain. With a shot and a few days of resting your arm you will probably be able to play. Dr. Bhive signing off.

Praying for you now. I have a great shoulder guy in Fort Worth. He did my surgery and I was very pleased with all he did. I also have a device called an iceMan and it does a great job of icing the shoulder. If I can provide contact info or the iceMan, let me know.

Please send info on the iceman, yes! And if this doesn’t get better, I’ll get his contact.

After I sent my prayers, I was thinking about how sometimes an unfortunate accident or injury has an unforeseen purpose in our lives. It can give us the opportunity to regroup, reflect, and refocus. For example, the late Bruce Lee suffered a severe back injury while training with weights and the doctor said he would never be able to do Kung-fu again. While recovering from his injury, Lee read many books and studied in depth various martial arts from around the world. He wrote detailed notes that eventually became his book, “the Tao of Jeet Kune Do”.

In another case that I read about, a piano virtuoso was imprisoned for several years during a cultural revolution. She had no access to a piano to practice. Every day, she visualized herself playing the piano perfectly. To everyone’s surprise, when she was eventually released from prison, her piano playing had actually improved.

Sorry for the long message, but just wanted to offer the thought that this unfortunate event might actually be a blessing in disguise down the road. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

Again, prayers for a fast recovery!

Yikes, sorry about that and I’m definitely praying for a really fast recovery! I know you have a cabin camp coming up and you probably can’t afford to be unable to play instruments for any length of time at home! :frowning:

@BanjoBen Praying for you Ben! You’re such a great teacher; hope you’re back in action soon!

you don’t need ice you need heat. I did the same thing with both my shoulders. Heat is the best for recovery; ice is great for bones of that sort. But will definitely be praying Mr. Ben.

How is the shoulder doing?

It’s a tad better today, still not able to extend my arm to play. Going to start some peptide injections next week along with castor oil, etc.

I will continue to pray that it heals up fast!

How’s the shoulder doing @BanjoBen ?

Thanks for asking. I’ve gained maybe 10% range of motion, going to start peptide injections later this week, continuing with exercises/stretches.

Glad to hear you’ve gained some movement. My physio gave me a three foot rubber band for stretch exercise but I also used a light weigh dumbell.
