Jake Workman been real quiet since this dropped
What are y'all up to?
Honestly I haven’t taught him anything that he’s playing. None of us have. He just picks stuff up and we have no idea where he got it from. What I can’t believe (and envy!) about him is that he’s to the point where he’s not just improvising his note choices but his timing - putting in funny and creative licks that play with the timing, and doing it on the fly, on stage in front of an audience. And he hardly even spends time practicing the guitar. He mostly plays mandolin. I wish I were half the natural musician he is, haha!
Wow!
Thanks, luckily it does appear to have done anything but cut into the webbing between my finger. Should get the stitches out tomorrow but I’m going to not push things too much for another week. Want to make sure everything is healed up for cabin camp at the end of April.
That’s wonderful news Stuart!
Yeah, I too would lean on the side of caution. But you will be ok!
I’m working on building an app that sorta intends to be like Duolingo, but for practicing your musical instruments. It’s very early in development, so don’t expect anything too soon, but if you have ideas for what you would want in such an app, let me know and I’ll see if it makes sense.
(I would totally love to do a Banjo Ben integration where it yells at you to practice your BB lessons )
Well I got my stitches out last Tuesday and everything is going pretty good. We were planning a three day Nashville trip so I pushed our instrument store dream instrument playing until Friday. I asked the folks at Carter Vintage if I could see the Santa Cruz that was a custom build for Tony Rice and got to play it for 5 or so minutes. Rice owned and used it on one of the Bluegrass Album Band Albums. It was really cool to play. It had been a few weeks since playing guitar so I definitely didn’t make anyone come see who was playing but no one ran out of the room either.
We saw Shadowgrass play at The Basement East. They put on a great show. We listened to a jazz piano led 5 piece jazz group at Rudy’s Jazz Room, and tonight we will see a blues guitar player I’ve player Corey Congillo.
Headed out tomorrow at 0500 with a couple whacky redheads to Athens, Georgia, for Cabin Camp! I’ll see some of y’all there! I won’t be around the forum much for the weekend, so y’all try not to break any windows.
Hope you have a great time
My wife and I are in Owensboro Kentucky for the Pitney Meyer album release concert at The Bluegrass Hall of Fame
Nice!! I love the songs they’ve released so far, looking forward to the rest of the album!
We got to see Michael Cleveland and Jason Carter in Savannah tonight, such a good show!
Jealous! Pitney Meyer gives me a feeling as if I’m watching a modern-day New South. They already have a distinct sound, for sure. To be honest, I don’t get excited over most neotraditional bluegrass releases lately, but for some reason I love Pitney Meyer.
Maybe it’s because they’re essentially an 81crowe jam video lineup made into a band. How neat is that??
Cabin Camp is about to descend upon the farm and we’re in full-on prep mode! Thank y’all for keeping an eye on the forum through the weekend, watching out for new folks and making them feel welcome.
From the photo it looks as though there have been a few retakes.
Haha nope. We played everything perfect first try! Just kidding… there have been some retakes, but he’s also using stereo mics for all the instruments so there’s more tracks then just one per instrument
