Very nice sounding band!
What are y'all up to?
Heading out to The Woodlands, TX, today to speak at a men’s ministry gathering for lunch. Thank you for praying for me to depend on the Lord, and not me.
This is last minute & random but I’m currently in Houston & would love to come up. If it’s an open event, let me know asap!
You were in my neighborhood. Did you go to the Wednesday night Jam with Mark Rocka?
I was in and out just for lunch, sure wish I coulda hung for a while.
This week I am learning new things…things like don’t get an avocado seed with a knife while holding that avocado when you are in a rush. Knife slipped and I had to get stitches between my ring and middle fingers on my left hand. It will heal and could have been worse. So no grabbing a fretboard for me for another week or so.
On the bright side I may be forced to work on my right hand with open strings for a bit (cross picking, down/up timing).
I have always had a worst case scenario obsessive thoughts mindset (good for designing networks for any possible problem but not good for keeping sane during problems). With that in mind, as I’m driving myself to urgent care I had the thought “If my left hand is very damaged I may have to start playing dobro!”
That’s thinking ahead!
Made a whirlwind trip to Missouri to visit the General Store boys and shoot lots of vid! Excited for y’all to see the content coming out in the next weeks/months.
Hey Yall! Just bought a brand new mandolin! Its the first instrument i’ve bought with my own money, and im super pumped! I’ve been playing guitar for a few years, and I wanted to try a new instrument. So I got this> https://store.banjobenclark.com/products/loar-lm-600-vs-f-style-mandolin-with-case
I’ve been in Missouri this week, too! I was in Warrensburg at UCM for the 2025 School of Tomorrow Ozark Regional Student Convention! I competed overall in 12 competitions, 3 of which were early entry. I did a banjo solo, and I placed first! And, by the way, @BanjoBen, one of the judges told me that he could tell from the way I played banjo and guitar, that I’ve been heavily influenced by your instruction. You’re a great teacher!
Mr. Gamble, wishes for speedy recovery!
I once had a friend share a story where his friend dropped the knife and cut his tendon or nerve or something and had to put stiches, that would always come to mind even if I’m a little careless with handling, mainly with knife slipping out and falling.
Just got back from a festival in Florida where The Brothers Five (my younger brothers) got their first festival booking! They did a great job and everyone loved them

@BanjoBen this is the mini Recording King guitar you gave us in the Cabin Fever contest @Luke_L won back 5 years ago. Leo (the youngest, 10) is tearing it up now on festival stages and making all the rest of us wonder where in the world he learned to pick like that (cause certainly not from me!!).
Wow, what a great show for their age! Nice melody too…
Well I’m sure you don’t need anyone to tell you this, but he’s a prodigy in every sense of the word. Sure will be fun watching him grow!
