That’s crazy! We probably crossed paths.
What are y'all up to?
John Meador was here from his set with Authentic Unlimited and came out to sing a song with Dailey and Vincent tonight
Now all of a sudden I feel the need to hear a trio of John, Jamie and Ben James… tenor overload
This lads look like they can bring some good vibes to a party, we need a concert from them for sure
Does this mean you are not going to be at the jam this week? Have a good trip!
Thanks! We’re heading back tomorrow. I hope to be at the jam.
Next weekend our band will be playing at a local festival, which will be fun! We are fairly new at this, and only have 3 functional songs, but we are trying to polish two more up. Thankfully, most of the band members are my siblings, so we can do the bulk of practicing ourselves!
P.S. If anyone has any info on playing the song Mama Don’t Allow, on any instrument would be greatly appreciated!
Here is Jim Pankey on Banjo
Here is Mike Parsons on Mandolin & Guitar
These are great, thanks!
I’ll post an update on how it went!
I went with my guitar to the spring cabin camp. The camp helped with playing what I hear instead of looking for tab. The more I did this and improvising, my brain just kept telling me this makes more sense on my mandolin so I have been playing a lot more mandolin. So, I’ve been playing mainly mandolin lately, I’ve been working on playing old gospel hymns lately, mostly the melody but some rhythm. I’ve been sounding out songs and then working on playing them also with no open strings. It’s funny, I’ve spent much more time playing guitar over the past 12 months then go to guitar Cabin Camp and start playing more mandolin
I guess I should clarify. I’ve been playing my wife’s mandolin since she got a really nice Northfield during November General Store deals. The Northfield has a nice tone.
Headed to Missouri early tomorrow morning to spend 3 days at the General Store filming vids of all kinds It’s always good to get with the team!
I finally found an album I’ve been looking for quite some time. I now have Skaggs and Rice in vinyl. I will be listening to at list one side this morning.
Did you stumble across that at a local store? I flip through the vinyl at Goodwill and consignment stores on occasion, and I’ve seen nearly nothing from the genre.
I got the Skaggs and Rice at a record store check outwhen I’m in Shreveport, LA. My daughter just moved there so I will probably visit more often. I also picked up a few records at a church thrift store while visiting my parents and in-laws earlier this week. We found The Seldom Scene 15 Anniversary Live and the Earl Scruggs 5 String Banjo Instructional albums for just a dollar each. The Sheldon Scene features guests like Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, and Stuart Duncan.
I try to check estate sales for records also but don’t find bluegrass too often. I do like checking out local record stores when I travel.
I am pretty late in updating, but I’ve been busy. The festival was great! I even threw in a song that I practiced on the way over there with my little sister. We were able to fill a good 20 minutes, which is more than we thought we would, and were invited to play there next year! We even got payed!!!
Glorious message with powerful, yet practical application for our times. Thank you for sharing @BanjoBen!
When I turned 40 I took a bunch of ignorant Tennessee friends to Texas for a BBQ tour. I had a fun birthday, and they had their lives changed forever.
This weekend I’m turning 45 and we’re doing a reunion tour of sorts, but with some new places that have recently made waves in the BBQ world.
Good thing I’m a carnivore…
