Happy Birthday @Dragonslayer! My birthday was a week ago, I got a guitar and a banjo mute.
What are y'all up to?
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Gunnar
Thanks y’all! @D_HRRFan7303 belated happy birthday! Don’t you just love it when your family gives you practical gifts
Yeah…
Today I am going to a banjo lesson at a library 30 minutes away, and I might get some fiddle instruction there too. Jam session tomorrow.
Wife and I are currently fishing with the grandkids. It is 96 degrees.
Where do you live Jeffrey? I’m from King.
Recording with the Solstice Sisters this weekend. With any luck, new Christmas CD will be out before Christmas.
I am currently learning Lonesome Road Blues, much more enjoyable to play up the neck on my new banjo. @mharrison43 looks like fun, is that a lap steel behind you? EDIT: I zoomed in, looks like a Dobro.
Yep…that’s Lee on the dobro. He played a Weissenborn as well. The booth looks like a giant fish tank. I only get to play banjo on one song…oh well.
I think that sounded quite nice… how long have you been playing?
Thanks Lefty, that you like it! I joined BanjoBen site just more than an year ago. Before that I only knew to play some chords for some several years but never really played it anywhere, nor did I know different rhythm patterns, to consider myself a guitar player. So put together you could say my total guitar experience is 2 years.
Well, I was fooling around with my new dtuners earlier, and detuned the B string down to A, and started playing around, and I managed to come up with a cool arrangement of cluck old hen in D! It’s pretty fun, I tried to add some Ron Block style licks, and like what I came up with. It’ll be a while, but it’ll probably make it up here eventually
At the rate you learn, I take that to mean in a few minutes
I got it presentable within minutes, but I have a backlog of videos for YouTube, cuz I filmed a bunch a couple months ago anticipating being at a hotel with free wifi, and then the wifi was so sketchy I only managed to upload a couple. So now I’m slowly getting them all up, I should be up to current by November (I hope)
Just got back home from a friends’. He scooped the “florida” out of my mando fingerboard for me.
Also left my guitar there to get the bridge glued back down.
Ordered some new strings for the mandolin.from the General Store
Trying not to notice the grass that needs mowed
Today was “youth-led” Sunday at our church, I got the play the banjo for Amazing Grace(and guitar for the rest).
Cool!
Well, got my place mowed finally yesterday…been terribly wet here.
New strings on the mando & old fiddle, had the “florida” scooped on the mando…Guitar is in the shop getting the bridge glued back down and should get it back in a week or so…I’m ready for the snow to fly!
Going to try again to get the tractor out onto the driving range this afternoon to pick balls and mow if possible…hoping it’s dry enough today.
I got half mowed, it’s not really mowing grass at this point, just bruising the weeds that won’t give up. Doing some small setting worship tomorrow with a violinist (violin is the same as a fiddle, but they didn’t call it that where he went to school) and a hand percussionist (cajon, djembe or similar), both of which are really great players with great hearts. The song I am most looking forward to is “All hail the power of Jesus’s name.” Also, hoping to finish the wiring for the Mode S transponder I am installing (will make us ADS-B legal).
