I thought I would start a thread where we can share licks that we have learned/created that might be of help to others.

I will start with a couple I gleaned from Ron Stuarts’ playing. I had the privilege to jam with Ronnie a few times many years ago down in IN at a festival we both played at.

Lots of banjo players have trouble playing back-up and making transitions to the next chord when starting (I know I do) so I thought I’d share a couple things that helped me fit into simple three chord songs when trying to roll through the lower register while backing up vocals/instruments.

First is going from G to C and the second goes form G to D

Here I included alternate rolls for the G. Pretty basic stuff, but I never considered starting a lick with the fifth string for one thing…always something to learn…haha
