This is my Father’s world

Does anyone have tab in g for this is my fathers world? I have the melody down but am struggling picking up rolls for it.

Hi @run_red_run Erin welcome to @BanjoBen 's Forum I do believe this tune is copyright and as such it is unlikely that Ben has TABbed this out. Also not too many people here TAB stuff out. You my have more success asking on the Banjo Hangout. Nice tune.

Dr. Google reveals the chords on the link below in the key of Bb. Try some forward rolls or forward reverse rolls over the chords. Of course you will need to transpose them to the key of G.

Thanks @Bcaves Brandon, @run_red_run Erin is asking for banjo TAB I didn’t think to check the key or chord progression. If Erin capo’s his banjo at the 3td fret and spikes his 5th string accordingly he will be in Bb and should be able to find the chords and vamp along or play rolls as you suggest.

Ok thank you. I don’t know how to do any of that yet. I can read tab. I can’t figure out how to put in the rolls to make it sound right. I have the melody in the key of g already.

Hi @run_red_run Erin, Since you can’t figure out how to play rolls over chords yet. Maybe you are not quite ready to tackle this tune.

I encourage you to work through @BanjoBen’s Beginner Banjo Learning Track. You’ll find all you need there to help you get a good start to playing banjo including playing rolls over a chord progression.

I have worked through almost all of them and the theory too. Along with some books. I think my brain is broke as far as figuring out how to put my own rolls into it. I’ve been working on it for weeks. I even had a friend play it for me who can do all of that and I recorded it on my phone but I still can’t figure it out. Guess it’s just my luck!

@run_red_run, I suggest you spend some time on Ben’s build-a-breaks, where he walks thru the process of developing a break from a simple melody by adding rolls and then licks. There are several available. I was a slave to tab, and quite honestly just skipped to the last part of the first couple of build-a-break lessons that I watched to quickly get to the tab that I wanted. But then I started watching the entire lessons, and I learned some of his thought process used in developing breaks. And I was recently able to use what I learned to develop a pretty decent break to a song that I didn’t have tab for. If I can do it, I’ll bet you can, too.

Thank you. I also feel slave to tab. I was a little intimidated by the build a breaks but I will give it a try. Thank you!

Wow @run_red_run Erin you’ve worked through almost All of @BanjoBen 's lessons in the beginner learning track and you’ve only just joined 3 days ago I am impressed.

I only just joined the forum. I’ve been playing banjo for over a year and have used a private instructor and banjo ben’s website during this period. And this is why I don’t post things. I only wanted help and am getting crap about it already. Sorry to be a bother. I’m just trying to learn like everyone else.

@run_red_run please don’t think you are a bother. We are all here to learn and the forum is a great place for that. Please keep posting. Welcome to the forum!

@run_red_run I hope you don’t think anyone on the forum is hassling you. I can assure you that no one here wants to offer you anything other than friendship and help. Sometimes text messages and emails miss out on the personality or good natured intent with which a comment is made. No one here is trying to “give you crap”.

Since we are talking about tabs for a great christian hymn, I feel like we should be open to these words from the Apostle Peter… be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit;

Well it doesn’t matter I can’t delete my post unfortunately. I just wanted to play this tune with my kids and didn’t realize people don’t make requests for tabs.

@run_red_run Erin, Everyone here wants you to get off to a good start. We are all on your side and we want to help where we can. Including help finding the TAB you want. Sometimes it may not seem like the help on offer is the help you want or need.

Experience has taught us that it is. I have been learning to play banjo since 2008, I joined @banjobenclark.com as a Life Member in 2013. I helped @BanjoBen with the Beta testing of the Lesson part of this website. As a banjo student myself I have a particular interest in all that goes on in the Banjo Section.

I have studied nearly ALL the lessons in the banjo section, Beginner thru Advanced and it took me close on 9 years. But I am still learning new stuff after 14 years and I don’t claim to know everything. I am 75 so I know a thing or two. If as you say you have studied almost all the lessons in the Beginner Section I congratulate you. That is quite an achievement as other folks will confirm I am sure.

This is a Family website we don’t use bad language here and we don’t attack others on the Forum when we are frustrated. Ben is currently in the process of moving from Nashville back home to Texas. I am confident he will address your query personally when he has a moment to spare. In the meantime may I suggest an apology to the membership would go far to clear the air and restore the friendly atmosphere of the Forum.

Good Luck on your Banjo Journey oldbanjoe50

Archie, in my opinion, it is you who should be offering the apology. Your response about completing the beginner track in 3 day’s, and again implying there is doubt with “if, as you say” came across to me as a sarcastic and condescending attack. These types of responses would not encourage me as a lurking beginner to speak up and request help.

You may have a point there @Scot Andrew. But I had already offered some advice which didn’t seem to sit well. Try reading the whole thread. I welcomed Erin to the Forum, I explained about copyright issues. I told him that not many people here write TABs and suggested the Banjo Hangout for TAB authors. I posted a link to a video so others might take up the challenge if they so desire. Adding value to the request. @Bcaves Brandon joined in offering help with the chord progression and noted the song was in the Key of Bb.

I responded by saying Erin was asking for a banjo TAB. And pointed out he would need to capo his banjo at the 3rd fret. To match the Key of Bb on his banjo.

Erin then pointed out that he had trouble playing rolls to make it sound right and that he had the melody in G

This suggested to me that Erin lacked experience.

My response was for him to work through the Beginners Banjo Learning Track and included a link for easy access - The same advice I have given to hundreds of new students joining the Forum. The same advice @BanjoBen gives out.

I read the whole thread. Read my response. Your response seems to ignore the points I made.
