Thanks for the kind words, that is the new mando (first time recording it). I just set the gain and fired away. I love playing mandolin rhythm… it’s a hoot.
That mix was 200 BPM. There was some discussion on the speed, but so far as I know, there wasn’t any real decision. I think Dave recorded his at 200. I am thinking with fills and such 200 would be fine. I think it can have enough drive and plus we could do a bit more with our parts. With that said, I have always said I have the easy part… the speed is up to you guys.
If we do the 200 BPM version, I had the various breaks lined out as follows (again if someone wants something different, no problem with me):
From whenever he wants to start until measure starting at about 0:22- (Break 1) Dave: fiddle kickoff and break
measure starting at about 0:22- Ozi Vox: traditional first verse (is a little to heavy for my size)
measure starting at about 0:42- (Break 2)Jesse: GTR
measure starting at about 1:01- Ozi Vox: Long way to Hazard verse
measure starting at about 1:20- (Break 3)Larry: Dobro
measure starting at about 1:40- (Break 4)Ben: banjo or mando
measure starting at about 1:59- Ozi Vox: Up on the mountain verse
measure starting at about 2:18- (Break 5)JW: GTR
measure starting at about 2:37- Ozi Vox: Make my tombstone verse
measure starting at about 2:56- (Break 6)Ben: banjo or mando break
measure starting at about 3:16- Ben: ending lick
JW, that puts you starting for the downbeat around 2:18. If someone records in the “wrong” spot or we do want to move them, not a problem.
I’ve got stuff I have to head out to, but I’ll try to get the complete mando track done in the next few days (I just recorded a verse to go with Larry’s break).
Let’s get settled on a speed and start putting this bad boy together
