Teaching a guitar lesson today. Was demonstrating how much good can be done with just two chords. So I pull up Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee whiskey (love me some Chris S). We started to find the Melody of the song. I had taught this kid the Pentatonix pattern that Ben taught at his Athens camp I was at. He played the first five notes of the Melody. He said “Mr. Garwood those are the notes in that pentatonic pattern you showed me”. I said “yup I’d like to tell you that I’m the genius that discovered those notes… but I’m not.” we spent the rest of the lesson playing licks over that tune. That pattern… everywhere in music. Once again, thank you, Ben! You made me some more money today…
