Revenge of the SpamBotz

This week there have been hundreds of spambot users added and hundreds of spambot posts deleted. It has been the worst outbreak of spammers getting onto the system I have seen. There were quite a few of what appeared to be spambot users added that had yet to post anything. Over the past couple of days, they would typically “wake up” and make a flurry of posts. This morning I went ahead and banned the users created in the last week that appeared to be likely “sleeper” bots.

I tried to ensure that any I banned had no existing posts and had the tell-tale signs of spambot users. With that said, I apologize in advance if I have banned any users that are not spambots.

Yeah Mike it was pretty bad this time. Glad we have computer savy members on the forum like you that know how to handle situations like that. Much appreciated.

Banned them? Now where am I going to go for my Russian porn needs?

Sorry Larry. I didn’t mean to reduce the forum’s appeal

The first ones I saw this week were the ones that had the naked lady pictures in the post. It threw me off enough that it took a minute for me to realize that a spambot had made that post. I hadn’t seen spambots do that before.

I’d like to claim some great knowledge, but it’s just a matter of pressing “delete” on a bunch of posts and banning the spambot accounts. Not much to it.

I happened across the nudie picture, too. I thought Ben was trying to spice up the site.
