Notes in a Lick

Do the notes in a lick have to comprise solely of the notes in that chord?

For instance, does a
[ul]G-lick have to contain only the notes G, B, and D?
C-lick have to contain only the notes C, E, and G?
Em-lick have to contain only the notes E, G, and B?[/ul]

no

A lick is only a name we give to some patterns that get played repeatedly. But these are based on scales, not chords. So the lick will contain the notes of a scale in most cases.
