My student for the last three years or so is a retired doctor. He bought a brand new Martin D 28 that I absolutely adore. Today he shows up with ANOTHER Martin, this one a 1953 Martin D 28 that he bought from Banjo Ben Clark’s store. I got to play it. I gotta tell ya -. It was a slice of guitar heaven. For me, martins are hit and miss. But when you find that Martin that Sparks your heart, you have a treasure that no other guitar can match. This 1953 D28 is one such instrument.
He handed it to me and the first thing I did was hold it up and smell the inside of the instrument. If you know you know. There is nothing like the smell of old wood.
