My First Fingerstyle Song!

So I started learning some alternating-thumb fingerstyle guitar recently. I’ve never seriously played this style, but I want to progress further in it– it’s just so versatile and I don’t want to be limited to just flatpicking.

This is a tune Doc Watson wrote called “Doc’s Guitar”. I played it way too fast and there are a lot of flubbed notes, but hey it’s a fast Doc song. All the mistakes were on purpose right? Anyway this is easily the roughest playing I’ve posted on my channel

This is awesome – so fast, it’s hard to even catch all the notes! Nice!

Thanks! It was definitely too fast to play all the notes too  I don’t know why I thought this was the normal speed. I wasn’t nervous/jittery on camera this time :man_shrugging:

Nice job! You look like a natural at this style.

Thanks! I’m used to using 3 fingers to pick from banjo, so the finger memory is similar. The thought process is a lot different though, which is what drives me crazy when I try to learn something  If I played piano I bet it would be a lot easier, since I’d be used to playing bass and melody simultaneously.

Wow… I wish my last finger style song could be this close!
