Light Gage versus Medium Gage

Currently I use light gage strings. I think it’s 11 to 39. However, I’m noticing that sometimes I will press down too hard, and it will change the pitch of the note. (sounds very unpleasant).

So, I’m thinking of changing too medium strings. My questions are…

  1. Will this help solve notes going out of pitch, or does this depend totally on player technique?
  2. Will medium strings require more hand strength in order to get a clean note?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion,

  1. It will make it harder to press strings as sharp, yes.
  2. Yes, a bit more hand strength but you should get used to it after an hour or so.
