Guitar strumming

I’ve been noticing that my guitar strumming when playing rhythm seems to be really choppy at times, especially when playing quick songs. Instead of a consistent strum sound, it sometimes sounds like I’m literally muting the strings after I play them. Other times, it sounds fine. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Study what your hands are doing to figure out the issues and adjust accordingly. Oh and watch how @BanjoBen does it.

Thanks, @Archie! Will do!

Would also encourage you to share a video to let @BanjoBen assess and comment on your playing

If I preferred, could I send it in a PM to a few select folks, rather than on the video swap category?

I guess so, no one to my knowledge has done that. I am sure @BanjoBen, @Michael_Mark and @Flatpickin_Libby would help you.

Man, who hurt this guy?

Spot on!

Yeah, something takes time (hardness/callous on the fingers etc.) and something comes from a bit (or lot) of practice only (the right amount of grip/pressure, accuracy etc.) for all to sound nice.

And sometimes a little guidance helps break through a barrier. advice

@cboling you can send me a video if I might happen to offer any guidance. A variety of bad habits could factor into choppy-sounding strumming, and it’s not the kind of thing that will just fix itself through continuing to play without evaluating and fixing. Happy to help!

I plan to try to send you, @BanjoBen, @Michael_Mark, and a few others a video for feedback. Getting the video done and put up here may take a while, though! Thanks for your willingness to help!
