Guitar Stings Shredding?

I bought Elixer Medium Guitar strings a few weeks ago. I was playing my guitar yesterday and noticed that my 3rd string seemed to be shredding, I cleaned it off and it still seemed to have a fuzzing look to it. Could I be playing to hard or something? Or could it be a defective string? Thank you!

That’s because the Elixer strings are coated to help them last longer. My favorite strings are Daddario XS strings because they have a really thin coating that doesn’t wear off like the Elixers do. And they feel and sound better in my opinion.

Sorry, I forgot to send the picture.

@Timothy_L, so the coating is coming off then? Is that from playing too hard or is it just normal. I tried the Elixers because BanjoBen liked them and thought I’d try them. Thank you!

Totally normal and nothing to be worried about. I play Elixirs every day!

Why I don’t like such strings. I want to feel wires not fur. Haha

I actually can’t feel the shedding under my hands. More of an aesthetic thing. Even so, my chemistry is so bad that I think I’d rather feel fur than rust

I know it’s personal preference. I’ve just never been able to stand the feel of those fuzzy, falling-apart strings. And I don’t let my strings get even close to rusty before changing them

I didn’t feel the fuzzies, only see it, but with a person with OCD I either need none with fuzzies or all with fuzzies. As long as it is normal I’m good.
I probably wouldn’t want to feel the fuzzies either🤣.
