Good Luck All

Where in NY? I live near Watertown, and when it’s not snowing I’m allowed to travel.

I’m in shock!!! Our band Headin’ Home Bluegrass took the 11th place prize at the awards announcement tonight! Luke got 10th place dobro, Lucy got 10th place mandolin, and I shockingly somehow got 4th place guitar even though I still think that’s not even real!

I know, I was SO shocked! There were so many amazing players that I was totally not expecting anything!! It was fun to meet @Dragonslayer here too!

My experience of competitions and judges from a previous life when my daughters were still young. I quickly came to the conclusion that judges and competition officials have an in built bias in favour of their own. Being an former competition official myself I witnessed a lot more than I want to say here.

No matter what the sport or activity it’s sad to say that judges and officials are rarely impartial. The true judges are members of the general public who clap and holler at your performance. For me they are the only judges that count in my opinion. They don’t get paid to express judgement they simply react to the moment in fact they pay for the privilege of being entertained. So if you got a big clap and a cheer which I am sure you did you earned that applause.

Whatever position in the competition you came in my eyes you are all winners simply by the fact that you entered the competition and performed and the one person who was declared the winner doesn’t necessarily mean they were the best.

As long as you enjoyed the experience there is always tomorrow and there will be other competitions.

Ask yourself what did you learn/take away from this experience and what might you do in the future?

It was such a great experience and we had so much fun, totally not expecting to win a thing!

You played so well in your submission here that I definitely expected you to do well and to win! Even if there were better performers, your playing deserved recognition and it was prize worthy! Congrats to y’all, particularly to the 3Ls! Keep it up!
