Gallagher Acoustic Guitars–What's the Deal?
Yay! Welcome Gallagher! That is a fine sounding guitar. It has the Martin-ish honk. A bit more bellsy in the higher range (which I like). I love the look of the back!
You mentioned putting the ToneTraveller on it. I have a toneRite and used it on a few new instruments over the years. IMHO It makes a difference. I liked the difference on all but one guitar. That one was adi on madagascar and had a crazy high overtone that went away as it broke in. I am pretty sure it would have happened anyway. Regardless, I do think it works. I’ll be curious to hear about your experience.
BTW @BanjoBen: In case you fall hard for the Doc model, please don’t sell the D18A without giving us forum folks a chance to make an offer! Your guitar has a bunch of notes I don’t hear coming from my own.
I watched this video and the one where you interviewed the owner of Gallagher guitars. Ain’t gonna lie. I want a Gallagher guitar so bad. If I can just win the lottery. What a huge sound coming off that thing. Will you have a Gallagher at the April camp in Georgia? I would love to touch one and play it. Just so I can say I played a Gallagher.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not dissatisfied with my Taylor mahogany. It has a wonderful sound. But I have tinkered with it to try to make it sound as big as my favorite bluegrass guitar sound. I put heavier gauge strings on it. I put bronze round heavier gauge strings on it. It just became a slightly louder Taylor. I can’t really explain it, except that when I play a really good Martin, I feel and hear the difference. And then when I saw and heard the Gallagher in these videos, holy schnikes! Me want.
Mr g
I think David is actually coming to Athens camp with a display of Gallaghers, so you can expect that wish to be granted!
Oooo! Gonna be fun!
Just watched it…. Mr Mathis looks to be quite the guy!
@Mr_G, you mentioned modding your guitar. If you haven’t done it already, one of the easiest/cheapest but purposeful things to do is to slot the bridge. You can get solid pins or just flip the slotted pins to use with the slotted holes. I notice a distinct difference with that mod. It won’t change the fundamental character of an instrument, but I think it makes every guitar I have done it to a bit better. As a bonus, it slows the wear on your bridge plate (because the string balls get captive on the face of the plate instead of jammed into the pin hole).
I love my Gallagher!
@Mr_G If you got one, what model would you get?
I think you should get this one:
Y’all are really gonna hit it off, Paige! He’s coming as a guitar student and will have a host of guitars with him, as well as present on Gallagher guitars during one of our group sessions.
I want that one!
