Folks… when playing from a d shape chord… what licks are avaliable and whats the best way to find the melody?

I just thought of this one: you may already know of it.
I just hold the D chord and the ring finger alternates between strings.
Do a tag-lick right after this…sounds really good.

I am wondering if you are asking about D chord or the Key of D. You mentioned chord shape and I thought you may mean the D chord when in the key of G. Then I thought you might mean the Key of D.
I thought I would ask before I might give you an example you couldn’t use for the purpose you intended the question for.
