Favorite Lick or Run?

I like the ending so here it is .

That’s a good ending. Thanks for posting it!

That is from the 1,000 bar Black mountain rag from Flat pickers hang out . it really does not have 1,000 but it seems like it when learning it, it is a long winded tune for sure ./. I have almost got where we’ll never grow old as you do it down fair but no cigar just yet; it is a nice sound the way you do it, sounds so deep . By the way it is off the area I usually practice in I rarely go past the 7th fret . it is just not the normal for me I can play upper frets but tend to not go there LOL

Here’s a little ending riff that fits nicely under your fingers…

Key of G major

I guess it is just me but when I play this riff I automatically follow with the ole G lick. It just feels natural to do that .

I haven’t worked on this tab, but it sounds pretty good to me welder. Now you just have to learn the rest of it!

That’s a nice intro.

The rest of it is always the rub isn't it yes I am working on it now and hope I can get it because I really do like the tune . I can do more just did not record that but it is a little rusty sounding . the A part in any tune seems to be the easiest to learn at least for me . Some day in a land far away in a different time I might record the whole enchilada , LOL. by the way folks I got a good report from the Cardiologist today . Yeah ! Wheeeeeeeeeee!

That’s great news and good to hear!!!

I like the song you’re working on too.

Nothing to do with the post but I have been helping my great granddaughter make greeting cards for her teacher and I always put at the bottom back of the card, “send Smallmark if you care the very best” . this 6 year old is very fastidious and serious about her cards now .

Hooray for good cardiology reports!

Congratulations on the good ticker report Welder!!!

That report made me practice harder and longer . I am now almost done with the memory aspect of the 84 bars of"Black mountain rag" and it is a decent speed I would not kick it out of bed. Lot of repetition in this one . it normally is played 330 beats and I am striving for 180 LOL if I can do it at that speed I will be satisfied. I make no money but I try to make some music . That 300 beats plus is for the pros not me . 140 is not a real bad speed for the tune. I even try and play note for note playing it back via Tabledit while playing, I do trip up but am looking for the day I will not trip . as someone on an old TV show used to say “I love it when a plan comes together”

Love the feel of this tune and this guy plays some great licks in this one. I really like the little rhythm lick he plays at about :41 - :43 in the video. If you guys know any cool little licks to spice up rhythm, please share 'em.

That’s some good picking. I’d like to figure out his nice triplet section. I can tab out the rhythm chords that Shawn is talking about if anyone wants them. I think it would be good to get a collection of rhythm licks on this thread (or maybe one dedicated to rhythm… this thread is already pretty big and it might be easier to find in a rhythm licks thread).
Thanks for posting the video!

I’m impressed!!, I’ve never seen anyone doze off that many times and not miss a beat! I’ve heard of sleep-walking, but sleep-pickin’ ?

That really is some fine playing. Clean and good tone too. Thanks Shawn.

Ha! He sure doesn’t seem all that interested in what he’s playing but man can he pick!

That would be great if we could get something started with a bunch of rhythm licks Mike. Since I will probably never be a blazing fast lead player my only hope is to become a solid rhythm player. There are a ton of rhythm licks like this out there that I hear but can’t always work out. I don’t want to bury you guys in videos right off the bat though.

I think that would be a fun thread. This weekend we have some of the best July weather in the history of Texas, so I’m not gonna be on the computer much. Next week I suspect we’ll be back to our normal temps.
