Is there a tune list for fiddle? :notes: :violin:

Your version of Wayfaring Stranger is in G minor. Is that how it will be played at camp? That’s quite a jump in skill for me and I’m guessing for others as well. The posted lesson above also assumes the student already knows what that means. I have a basic idea of what it means from going through your music theory lessons, but I have not yet seen it in practice. From my notes, the G minor chords should be A, B, E, F# but I sure would like to see that explained in the video. Thanks.

Oh, I see in the Wayfaring lesson list you actually have a lesson on the chords… so disregard my message above. I’m set now!

I absolutely love the new lesson on the G Major scale. Is there anything like that that breaks down the G minor scale?

Lots to learn here. I can’t tell you how excited I am to learn these songs with the thought I’ll soon be playing them with other musicians. I know this camp is going to help take my music experience to the next level. I can’t wait.

I hope Ben doesn’t mind but I want to share a video he made for me that I think might be helpful for others in this forum. I asked him about minor chords in an email and he generously responded with a very detailed explanation of how to find the corresponding minor chords from the different major chord shapes. This came up as an issue for me when I saw that Wayfaring Stranger was in A minor. I never felt comfortable just following tabs and someone’s instruction without understanding the concepts first probably because I’m terrible at remembering this stuff. If there’s an “algorithm” then I can just logically figure it out instead.

@BanjoBen I am looking for the song list for the Nashville banjo only camp. Has one been posted yet?

@BanjoBen I thought this was an excellent explanation. Can you do the same with 7th chords?

I am in the process of preparing for the East Texas Camp in November to play banjo. I am to the point where I can at least play SOMETHING as a solo for each song on the list. That said, what should I focus on in terms of rhythm? Vamping? Rolling backup? I have 3.5 more months of prep and I want to make sure I use it as wisely as possible, so tips on rhythm, practice, or anything else is appreciated!

Hi @stevens.joshuat I would suggest all of the above plus know your chord shapes major, minor & seventh Don’t stress yourself out though all reports suggest the camps are quite relaxed

Right! I want to get that sweet spot where I work hard so that I get the maximum benefit but don’t stress myself out. It is going to be a big step to play in front of people, but it sounds like camp is the perfect place to do that!

Don’t stress! Me and you are gonna have a BALL! The fact that you have some sort of solo down for the songs is huge. Yes, try to know your vamping, but work on the rolls too…we’ll be working on this at camp. Here’s an early release of the lesson dropping later this week that I made for @Archie https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/real-deal-pick-n-fill-1-banjo-intermediate
