Easter Song

Attempted to add some fill in…

I told @Grace the same thing @Archie.

I think it is coming together nicely.

I may try to play some rhythm here soon.

Still not sure about playing it in 3 (as I envisioned when I wrote the lyrics) or play in 4 as @grace did on her demos.

Nice @JohnM!

Thanks Bill! I think the kids can pick up and improvise upon it as they play better and smoother than me!

Thanks! Glad you like it. I think you’re right in that it does sound more like a hymn in 3/3. I think I like it better in the 4/4 but I also really like the way it sounds like a hymn in the 3!

I like the fill in!!
And thanks Archie!

Glad you like it, Grace! Also I guess I can’t keep up without the fill for music like these.

I am trying to lay down a rhythm track in 4 now…

It is still a mess… But this give you and idea… In 4…

Even though I lost a beat at the end… Can you work with this @Grace?

Also, can you hear that Em chord… I like that because it changes it up a bit… So on the next pass, when we use C Major, it stands out more…

I’ll work on a better rhythm track.

Maybe now you have the melody, I can just try to concentrate on the chords instead of fumbling through both…:pensive:

It’s better than I can do! :+1:
Also, in my demo I go down on “Clarion Call” the same as on " us all". But on the melody you created, it seems to go up…Which should I be doing?

I like what you do… Better…

Here is a 4/4 rhythm track 3 verses with a little tag ending. This also has a different feel…

Be aware that you would sing the pick-up notes (God sent His…) without any instruments in this one - as I was strictly focused on the chords…

Do you think you enjoy singing in 4 more @Grace ?

I think I do like the 4/4 better…

Here we go… Guitar chords for @WillCoop version:

             G G/B Em Em7
God sent His Son to redeem us all
    G Em D D7
His message shared to testify
               G B+ C/E C/D#
Of God’s great Love, a Clarion Call
         D Am11 D7 G
A coming day when Death would die!

Those may work… but not exactly what I wrote, @JohnM.

Still, I appreciate the involvement. :grinning:

@Grace - go ahead on run with 4/4 then! I like that too. It has more drive.

Chords are:
Measures 1: G
Measures 2: Em
Measures 3: G
Measures 4: D D7 (Thanks @JohnM!)

Measures 5: G
Measures 6: C C#dim
Measures 7: Dsus4 D7
Measures 8: C G might be nice. This is a nice 4 1 “Amen” sounding ending.

I played C D G on the latest rhythm track but I wasn’t crazy about it. I just tried it to see how @Grace felt about it.

I think a C to G would work better.

I think @Grace played G D G in earlier demos… and that could work also.

@WillCoop, I did not have a chance to look at your chords. I thought those were for Mandolin and I also thought you play the melody and end in those chords and therefore you might not require too many chords. For Guitar rhythm, to me it sounds like the chords goes in pairs. You land up in one chord and then you slightly modulate it afterwards by changing one note or so in the original or first chord of each pair. These are simple chords only in open position in Guitar. There must be some equivalent in mando too. But you may not want to complicate it too much in mando since you also play the melody.

Interesting insights…

Admittedly, I am not good at creating songs in Bluegrass… in fact, this is my FIRST!

THIS is why I wish we could do this on Zoom or something… 'cuz I gotta learn from y’all.

Oh… And don’t think I was being critical… because… I don’t know what I’m doing, John.

I don’t think I’m better than you! I play some songs and I used that as base and kind of created these chords. You can criticize me though in music.

Now that @Grace has some more input, I am interested to see what she might come up with now.

Wouldn’t it be cool if @BanjoBen could have a workshop to have this song developed further?

A songwriter’s workshop.

I also wish the Purple Hulls could perform this!
