Cheap pick pouches

Hey folks! It’s already September - where’d the time go….
September means stores are getting rid of the back to school supplies. These little pouches were $1 each and originally meant for storing ear buds. But they just happen to be a good size for storing picks. They zip completely shut & have a keyring attached. The bright colors make them ‘somewhat’ :grimacing: difficult to lose. So far, I like em.
Just thought I’d share my hack if anyone’s looking for pick pouch ideas…

Hi @Simone did you make these yourself? Yeh I like the :grimacing: right after the bright colours comment. I can just about see the audience reaction as JD Crowe pulls the blush pink out of his pocket to slap on his picks.

I keep my banjo picks in an old 35mm film container to avoid any crush and I keep the container, my tuner and my capo in a draw string baccy pouch. When I go out to jam. Can’t remember the last time that happened. At home I have a wee cubby hole next to my computer and in easy reach, Just right where I need them.

If JD uses one, it’s good enough for me! His banjo magic has to come from somewhere!

While the famous Scottish frugality looks good on you, I pack my picks in one of those really ugly, over-priced conversation starters…the cane toad.

Fortunately, the General Store offers EZ payments.

I implored my daughter to buy me one for Father’s Day, but she flat refused. She claimed it was too ugly, she did not want any record of purchasing a dried out toad on her credit card and besides, “Dad , you taught me the value of a dollar.”

She’s probably right on all three accounts, but it’s worth it for my sense of whimsy.

Nope, didn’t make them myself. They were on back to school sale clearance items at the local Wally World (Walmart).

I should have thought that post thru better cuz for my use, flat picks, it works great & I store em in the pouch in the mando case when not playing or on the way to playing. If the foam liner was removed, it should fit banjo picks, but there’d be no protection from the crush…

I know folks that put picks stuck thru their strings & or loose in the compartment of their case who’ve lost blue chips… they could have benefited from an overly bright pick case…

I saw these and NO definitely not for me.

Yes I wear it like a crown.

We are so tight I can’t put any money in or take any money out of my English bank account. You’ve guessed it I am having issues with my bank at the moment and I have just got off the phone - one hour with customer services. I look back with great nostalgia when you could walk into a bank and chat with the clerk, carry out your transaction and walk out the door. Life was so simpler then.

Yes flat picks are easy to loose - and blue chips - well you have to keep a watchful eye on them especially in case they should grow legs and walk evilgrin Know what I meangif

@Archie
Yup, I know what you mean! Fortunately I just happen to have leg-less picks…
(meaning not bluechips!)
I’d still rather not lose them though!

How was the copper wire invented? Two Scots fighting over a penny.

I first heard that one about the Dutch but figured it would work good for you too.

@Simone great reuse of the earbud pouch! I found these online last year and bought a couple. First off, I love leather and with the thin profile, it fits well in my pocket.

Not only simpler, but people actually knew what a “35mm film container” was!

On a complete side note, Isn’t it funny how the USA has fought using the metric yet we have been using metric for film sizes for decades (9mm, 35mm). Plus we’ve been selling sode in 2 liter bottles since the 80’s.

That doesn’t seem to be all that crazy.

Scots would likely raise an army to fight over a farthing. kilt7

The Scots are a canny lot and the world has a lot to be thankful to them for what the have done. America in particular. John Muir, Andrew Carnegie, Alexander Graham Bell, James Watt, John Loudon McAdam, John Boyd Dunlop, James Dewar, Thomas Telford, James Clerk Maxwell, Charles Rennie Macintosh, James Young I may have missed a few important ones but the list seems endless.

The Scots are a proud nation ask any Englishman and they will keep you straight.

Now these look rather neat. Make great little beer mats

Oddly enough, the English still uses “miles” when referring to a long distance, and even “feet & yards.” Shorter distances get you centi- & milli- meters.
And they still drink pints, not milliliters of beer. Some many even drink “gallons.”

I still use miles inches feet and yards, pounds cwt & tons I am sitting drinking a pint of beer right now but I don’t think I’ll manage a gallon - at least not tonight. When I go to the garage to get petrol (gas to you guys) I buy it in litres all although at current costs it’s way more than I used to pay for a gallon of petrol. Shops no longer want to deal in cash and even the Ice Cream Cart asked for my bank card what is the world coming too… Life was so much simpler when I was a kid. A penny would buy a packet of sweets that would last all day. Nowadays you need a bank account to buy a coffee and a donut. Is it just me or are we being controlled by big brother business

I don’t know if we’re being controlled, but we are certainly being led down a path many would like to avoid.
But if you want the low price you must do it their way. If you want to do it your way, be prepared to pay more.
I think a lot of this began when we forgot “the customer is always right,” and we accepted the idea we were “consumers.” No longer an individual, a consumer is simply a resource for generating revenue.

I see this more an more each day and it seems no one cares about delivering good customer service, and when you try to explain it’s in their best interest to treat customers with respect they just don’t want to know. It’s all our fault for being a customer. They NEVER get it wrong. I wish I could go back to being a child when the man in the sweet shop treated me with respect and waited patently till I decided what sweets I wanted to buy.

Anyway that’s all the ranting I am going to do today. Time for some banjo

so they’re being a little tough on you at the sweet shop lately eh? Rushing you?

I like using both measurement systems, depending on the circumstance… (9mm, .45, 7.62mm, .40, 5.56mm, .38, etc.).
