Changing your forum name and avatar

I knew I shouldn’t have posted about avatars. I tempted fate. The first rule of avatars is you don’t talk about avatars.

In the interest of diagnostics, I logged out and logged back in. Any change? I still see myself and others fine.

I can see everyone’s avatars fine, with the exception of Michael’s. #powerclub :smiling_imp::alien::smirk_cat:

Still not seeing yours. I tried logging out and back in. It didn’t help.

I’m gonna have to eat crow on this one. I’ve tried 3 different pictures with logging out and back in and I still can’t get my avatar to show up.

check 1 2, check 1 2…:grinning:

I can still see them all with the exception of Michael who’s aviator hasn’t been visible at least since he last posted to this thread afaik #powerclub

Sounds like browser issue! Chrome shows everything, IE does not.

Actually it’s a coding issue that Ben’s web designer is working to resolve.

Good catch, John. I just confirmed that there’s a definite difference in what appears between Chrome and IE. Also tried Firefox. It has the same problems IE has.

Archie, as you said, it is a coding issue, but sooner or later you’re going to want to start the process of moving away from IE. The world, including Microsoft, is supporting it less and less. While MS will technically support IE through the Windows 10 end of life, they are putting more focus on Edge, the IE replacement browser, which they somehow managed to make even worse than IE.

Ah… I see, Archie. I used to use IE and then when I joined this site I could not download the tabs from IE but it worked with Chrome. Live streams sites did not work with IE for me and many other sites stopped working in IE lately that I had to switch to Chrome for that.
Thanks Mark, and things confirm to what you say!

How come some people (like. @jmonickaraj) have a letter with color, while others (like Michael) just have a silhouette?

The silhouette is what the board uses when it has no idea what to use.

Hi @Mark_Rocka I am convinced it’s a coding problem and have notified Ben. There are problems with Chrome with Edge and from your test Firefox.

Looks like in cases where no picture is setup, a default (first letter with a random/some background color) is used, whereas in cases having issues retrieving provided pictures, a silhouette is used.
Mark said it already…

I think we’re getting to the root of the issue. Looks to me like problem is with some type of permissions in accessing the picture file. Either a problem with the picture file permission itself or with the process that provisions this picture. More likely the latter case, as the service id used to access the web content might be the same for all browsers (to complain about issues with the picture file) but the browser permission settings for the provisioning process could be different in the different browsers. But then the process works for some pictures so user directory permissions under which the picture file is kept an issue??

Less chances for browsers to break any code that worked before as they are backward compatible to most extent?? So it is likely that some code update is done, that isn’t tested well in all browsers??

Hi @jmonickaraj IE is fine, I have no problems downloading TAB or mp3 files.

Hi @Archie Archie, just tried and IE worked. I will switch to IE now.
