How are you designing this? Are you writing all the code yourself or using some kind of design software? I don’t know much about this stuff, just curious.
Beta testers needed / Play with my app! It's fun!
My programming skills wouldn’t allow me to designs the buttons on the page any more. It’s all AI and lots and lots of time.
Well shoot… I implemented 2 new features this morning but I gotta go to work and can’t check them out.
Can someone play around with the new Accessibility Color Themes and the new Name That Chord! game and let me know what needs to be tweaked? You’ll find both near the bottom of the new Side Bar menu. Accessibility has its own Drop down entry. The game is under the Reference tab.
I am following this thread, and have not thought of anything to add to what others have said. This is a wonderful app.
If you do decide to add Irish/Celtic music, you’ll encounter Reels (4/4), Jigs (6/8), Slip Jigs (9/8), Slides (12/8), Polkas (2/4), Waltzes (3/4), and then hornpipes and strathspeys are two different 4/4 rhythms that count the same but emphasize differently, and slow airs, which may be in 3/4 or 4/4 but are very slow and usually pretty.
I got bored a couple of days ago and implemented 9/8 time. I think it turned out pretty well! Now that I know exactly how to handle it, I can add other time signatures too, should the need arise.
That’s good to hear, David. I had a phone call with @Bhive earlier today. It was a very fruitful learning session for me. We found 2 bugs (couldn’t start a song from a split measure and couldn’t convert a split measure to a rest or skip) and 1 feature that needed to be added (add a Cut button to the button bar after using the Select measures button.)
All are now implemented and live.
Ok I just spent a few minutes playing with it, because finding someone to back up “little rock getaway” is very rare.
I’m using a Macbook pro, running Sequoia 15.4 and using Brave Browser.
First note, there are buttons for Aug and Dim, but they appear to not have been programmed yet, because they are greyed out and do nothing. This appears intentional?
Second, I noticed that if you split a measure, and then try to unsplit it just by hitting the x on one of the sections, it gets rid of half of the beat, and becomes crooked.
So instead of playing D 1 C 2|d3a-and| E 4, it will play D 1 C 2 |d3| E and. I don’t know if that quite makes sense or not?
I didn’t look at it for too long, maybe it has a built in solution, but following intuition didn’t work. The way I found to reset it was to delete that beat, and then rebuild it fresh. That was inconvenient, because when you delete a beat, the other chords slide back at you like milk in the grocery store (a feature that makes sense for other reasons). One related thing, is it would be nice to have a way to insert a chord somewhere other than the end of the line. Idk if that’s doable, but it would be nice as a user.
3rd issue: and I understand if this can’t be done for practical reasons, but there is no way to add multiple modifications to a chord. I tried to add an F7add9, and it wouldn’t.
4th thing, not a bug, but a preference. When I hit pause, it kept playing for a beat and a half, making me think I hadn’t paused it, causing me to hit the button again, unpausing it, and then going back and forth for a minute before I realized I needed to wait longer. I think an immediate pause would feel more intuitive.
5th, I definitely would prefer songs in minor keys to be shown as in the minor key.
There might’ve been one other thing, but I don’t remember.
Other than those, it seems like a very nicely set up, easy to use interface, and I enjoyed using it briefly. I hope to use it more when I get the time
Correct. I haven’t recorded those samples yet. My new mic and preamp are supposed to arrive Sunday. If they do, I’m hoping to get all new samples recorded and edited Monday that include those missing chord variants.
Sounds like you need to enter a rest into that split cell. Deleting it will skip it.
You can do that. Just click on the cell before where you want the inserted chord to go. When a cell is selected, clicking a chord button inserts the chord to the right of the selected cell.
Correct. The logic doesn’t work that way. It’s literally pulling samples of full chords being strummed. Since an F9 chord (as opposed to an Fadd9) would naturally have the 7th in it, you’ll get that chord once I get more samples entered. I’m really excited about getting those new samples in place!
It would, but I can’t seem to get it done because of the way the scheduling agent loads the samples. The samples already loaded have to finish playing before the pause take effect.
Yeah, I’ve already resigned myself to making that happen. I think enough people will be irked by not having that option that it makes sense to put it in there.
I appreciate all of your detailed explanations. It’s funny, but I’m actually enjoying finding and fixing bugs, and having even more fun adding features. I actually played the little game I added today. Had some ideas for improved game play, too.
Minor keys are now live.
How depressing.

Taking a fresh look. I can’t see how to access tunes in a Minor Key
Oh. It looked like it went back to being a full cell, which was my intention when I did that. Is there a direct way to revert it to an unsplit cell?
The rest of your answers make sense, and I already figured that they might be the case.
I did remember my other thought, which probably is valuable to such a small subset of users as to not be worth doing, but I found myself wishing for copy and paste.
This is all very impressive to me; I find computers and software to be a mystery, and those who understand them seem like mystical sages lol.
Sorry, I mean to say that creating a song in a minor key is now a feature. If I happen to feel like torturing myself, I may go back through the song list and change the songs to minor keys that need it.
I knew this was going to come back to bite me.
OH! I didn’t understand that from your first post. That’s a really good bug find, and it’s now fixed! Thanks for sharing that!
Well I must have been reading your mind, because after I replied to you last night, that’s exactly what I added. You can now click the first cell of a desired range, press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard, click the last cell, and it will select the range. CTRL+X, CTRL+C, and CTRL+V work as you’d expect.
I honestly don’t know why I didn’t think to put that in there weeks ago.
Great finds and requests! Many thanks!
Here’s a fun addition. The new Degree Trainer game is up and running.
The game plays 3 strums of a root chord. The 4th strum changes to a different chord and you have to identify that chord.
Use the Chords button in the game to choose your degree of difficulty.
You can choose chords individually or pick from 4 sets of preselected chord groups. I’m having a lot of fun with this one.

BANJO!?!? Say what!?
May I request spoons?

Doodle Sack

I love this app and am already using it.
