Welcome to Interactive Tutorials! They’re now live and should help you with most of the questions you have about the app. Just click on the Menu button at the top right, then click the Interactive Tutorials button at the bottom of the Settings Sidebar. You’ll see 5 tutorials to choose from.
Beta testers needed / Play with my app! It's fun!
I can get you this close now.

I just realized something. After all these years, I finally got to pick with Ben while he was playing banjo… and I wasn’t even there.
Last night we added Jam Mode. Today, check out Tab View.

There’s only 1 tab loaded right now. It’s from Ben’s Basic Cripple Creek lesson. Load up Cripple Creek in the app, the click on the Menu button on the top right and turn on Tab View. You’ll see the tab chart replace the chord chart, and each measure of tab highlights as the song plays.
It’s not as slick as TablEdit, but it’s very usable.
This is a bit different tech wise, but I’ll throw it out there. What about linking Jam Mode between multiple mobile devices (I am thinking iPads)? Having multiple synced devices at a jam would be slick.
That’s a great idea! It’s not ready for that yet since it’s been built from the ground up as a stand alone app, but that’d be an awesome feature once I get it running on a server with user accounts and everything.
Question for everyone. I hope this doesn’t start a flame war, because people tend to feel pretty passionate about their position on this.
Is it important to you as a user of this app to show songs in minor chords? For example, do you want to see that a song “is in Em” as opposed to G? They’re literally the same key signature. If you look at a music sheet, you’ll see the one # on F in both cases.
So it is correct to say both that the song is in Em and that it’s in G.
Personally I don’t have a preference. If there is a minor chord in an arrangement its usually there for a reason. I like the challenge of learning a tune in a minor key. No flames from me.

OK everyone. 1156 songs are now dialed in. If anyone can find any bluegrass standards that are missing, or if you find mistakes in any of them, please let me know.
I would think it’s more common to refer to the key signature as being in G. But it really doesn’t matter to me. Referring to being in Em just requires me to do a little extra thinking to realize it’s the minor 6th chord in G. Really impressed with all this work, Mark.
Thanks Jeff! It’s been a true labor of love.
… and slick it definitely is! I was wrong about how difficult it would be to implement this idea. It’s a really good one, Mike… and it is now live!

The tutorial is already available, but in a nutshell, you click Start on one device (or just one browser if you want to test it yourself) and it generates a 4 digit code. Click Join on another device (or browser) and type in the code.
That’s it! The host now controls the session on all joined devices. The group will all see the same song, the same tab view (as long as everyone has the same tab loaded on their devices) and toggle in and out of Jam Mode as soon as the host does.
This might be the most fascinating feature of this app. I really wonder how much it will get used.
Phenomenal.
I am smiling alot watching this. The software development life cycle (SDLC) used to be something we had meeting(s) to plan out. We met with the customer. We got ideas. We prototyped it and got extensive reviews and tweaked until we were all happy. We mapped out the DB and the software architecture. We developed libraries. We then got started in proper development. We met often with the customer to tweak as we went along. When we got all the requirements covered, we went to internal test, then SME test, then field test. That covered about a year of time. You are doing this in about a day
I would say yes, I personally would prefer to have it say the minor keys. Not sure how much work would go into it, and I realize it’s the same key signature, but I think if it was me I’d like it to include minor keys
Great work on all this!
It really is mind blowing. At this point, the hardest part is developing a clear vision of what you want.
I just spotted this today and I must say that I am extremely impressed. What a wonderful project and and useful tool. The more I look through the app, the more I am impressed with your throughness!
There will probably be a point at which you decide that adding extra customizations might be a step too far for some/most folks. Still, it loks great and seems to work smoothly with my PC/Win 11/Chrome browser.
BTW, when did you start this project cause your original post at the top of the page was just over a week ago and you already have over a 1000 tunes dialed in !?! WOW
Thanks Michael! I appreciate the compliments. The project started about 3 weeks ago. Inputting the songs has been the most grueling part. I’ve spent countless hours just plugging away at it, but honestly it helped make the app better. It allowed me to see inefficiencies in the chord entry flow and address them. It got it to the point to where if you already know the chord progression, you can complete a simple song in under 15 seconds.
I just ordered a new mic this morning, so better quality samples are just a few days away!
I think the business side of this requires a 1937 D18 as well. You should probably get a Loar mando and pre war Gibson banjo as well.
I like the way you think.
