Ok so we didn’t really settle on the vocals, but the last thing we had was, @Shaky_loves_banjo on lead, @michael_mark tenor, and me on bari.

Bump…

@Dragonslayer If you are too busy and/or chicken to play fiddle in the key of B, I can try for it (I worked up a solo a few weeks ago)

@oaklymaple Are you still planning to sing lead?

Also unless we have a high lonesome tenor in hiding around here, maybe one of the girls should sing the tenor part.

Hey guys, sorry I’m late to the party. (This is Taryn aka theChristiancowgirl)I’ve never done a collaboration before, but if you’re willing to walk me through it all, I’d love to join.

I can play an instrument or sing. I’ve always sung first soprano lead in our homeschool choir, but hey I’ll give high tenor a try if you need me to @Michael_Mark. Would I need to come up with the harmony on my own (I’m assuming it would be harmony)? I’ve never done that before, so it might take me a while to catch on but I’ll try my best!

Come on guys! Let’s get this going again and claim bragging rights to having the first fully-completed young picker collaboration😂

Yeah! If you could sing the tenor harmony part that would be awesome!

I think the tenor harmony is fairly prominent here:

So basically the tenor part is almost always a third interval above the lead (following the chords). So if the lead sings the root over the 1 chord, the tenor is singing the third over the 1 chord. If the lead sings a 2nd over the 5 chord, the tenor is singing the 5th over the 5 chord. So really harmony is just like singing a chord.

So the tenor part will probably be in your mid to lower range, I would recommend just singing it in the male octave so we have a tighter sound.

If you’re not familiar with singing the tenor interval, listening to Ricky Skaggs’ prominent tenor singing on Skaggs and Rice will probably help familiarize you with it. The tenor part is most often sung by guys, but none of us guys here have the high vocal range for it :joy:

If you need it, I can probably write out the harmony in notation or numbers. :+1:

Thank, I’ll see what I can do. My voice range is generally pretty high (as I said, I sing first soprano), but I think I can pull it off, especially since it is above the lead, not below it. I might needs notes, but will try winging it with the videos first.

Do you think @Shaky_loves_banjo will be able to join us now nearly 6 months later?

Man i forgot about this. Do we still need instruments or what? I haven’t played banjo in about 6 weeks but i could dust it off and still work out a solo if need be.

I already recorded the banjo track but if you want to, you are welcome. Hey did you get a submission in for Auld Lang Syne?

That’s fine, your banjo sounds a lot better than mine anyway.

I had something very unexpected come up over holidays so i couldn’t quite get done in time. I had a backing track done and a guitar solo but we had a big party with a bunch of friends to bring in the new year so i couldn’t get it done in time.

naw that’s fine

I’ll still post my guitar part tho so you could watch for that, hopefully in the next week.

I can do the fiddle part, but you’ll have to refresh me on how exactly we each need to record it

We’re still at 155 bpm in the key of B right? Can someone post the official lineup again because I think there are at least three different ones in this thread.

Oh, and @Flatpickin_Libby, my sister wants to know how you got so good at the guitar😂

Also are we trying to sing it just like the Ricky Skaggs video? So the harmony is only singing certain parts of the chorus and not the verses?
