Alvarez DY-77 Clone?

I Played an Alvarez DY-77 recently, and fell in love! It was the best guitar I’ve ever played, but I can’t afford it(I’m 17).

So for the ones who have played a DY77 what guitars would have the closest sound and tone for under $800 used?

Thanks,
Juan Solo

In that price range, the ones I have played that seemed to be incredible values in tone were the Eastman dreads (like an E1D) and for a bit more the red label yamahas. I have heard good things about others, but don’t have experience with them. I have played a really nice recording king, but no experience that I recall with the dreads.

What guitars am I missing here folks?

BTW, how much was the Alvarez? They used to sometimes be a good bargain find (I am old  )

That’s what I would say precisely, the Eastman E1D or Yamaha.

I do like the red label yamahas, I might look more into those.

@Mike_R The one I loved is not for sale:cry: but I have found quite a few for ~$1200, and one for $800 in great condition except for the heel which has a very bad amateur repair. I will post pics and y’all can tell me what you think.

I’d have to look at and play the one with the repair before buying it unless it was a bit more of a discount. I do love that back, but to fix things up “right” would probably cost at least as much as the purchase price. Alternately, keeping looking and squirelling away some money until you find the very instrument you want. You are in a price point where (with patience) you can buy a no-excuses guitar. :+1:

Does anyone have an estimate on what it would cost to redo the repair in north ga?

I don’t think we can tell you with the pics we have. The best way to know is to take it to a shop or two and get some estimates.

Maybe give Dylan Keel a call at Classic City Vintage Guitars in Athens. He does good repair work.
