A name for the famous Bluesgrass 4 bar ending

That’s a great story. I gotta ask, how far did she drag the mattress?!? That had to be a sight!

I am also interested to hear more…

We always are bouncing around seatbelts or no. Usually no… I’ve smacked my head against the roof several times, it’s not that bad actually…

It was about 2 miles. She had a country store called Jakey’s 4-Way Grocery, with a porch on the front where all the old men chewed the fat. She pulled up to the store and it was smoking and they yelled for her to get out, then it happened.

@BanjoBen,

What a classic story… and the end…

Perfect way to end it… As it sounds so ominous, doesn’t it?

…then it happened

:wink::joy:

So… In the end, do we have a verdict?

Is it just “Ending”?

Or…?

Is there some final nominees for a list of 3-4 ideas for a vote (and yes, one can be simply “Ending” - as boring as it sounds).

What do ya say gang?

How about looking through the thread for a short list of 3?

Any nominees?

I still like “The Tail”

Tail is kinda cool.@shedrick

Alright, “wind up”. And the winner is… ?

@jmonickaraj1,

This was exactly my question… and while I raised the question, I don’t know that I am the best person to declare a… “Winner”.

That said, I think the finalists are (assuming a four bar phrase):

  1. Kick 4
  2. Boot 4
  3. Ending 4
  4. Tail 4
  5. Out 4
  6. Wipeout 4
  7. Get out! 4 (a salute to the horror genre)
  8. Exit 4
  9. 4 more
  10. Shave 4 (Shave and a haircut, two Bits salute)
  11. Caboose
  12. Close 4

Let’s shave this down to a list of the top three or four, shall we?

Lest we forget that Finito Mussolini didn’t make the cut but was an honorable mention.

I am throwing out “Final 4” because of the connection with NCAAB tournament

Maybe… Break 4

No… That obviously won’t work because of the Bluegrass “Breakdown” terminology.

Strike that one off…

Why must 4 be part of them? It makes them clumsy to say IMO. I like caboose, or how bout “lunch break”? Wipeout would be cool too

@Dragonslayer,

It was suggested that the ending phrase is often 4 bars but can also be 8.

So… While 4 doesn’t have in there… but it could be used to call it out.

Personally, I also like caboose.

Or maybe tail or boot?

You are the judge @WillCoop! :wink: Or I’ll nominate you for that…

Why what an honor…

But… I still ask for some support y’all.

Whatever name “WE” (all Forum Members) choose… I would like us to really embrace it.

So… as @Dragonslayer has raised as a starting question…

Does the number add value… For the number of bars to signal the end?

Maybe it is unnecessary after all?

What do y’all think?

What is in a number is new to me. I have only heard what is in a name! :wink:
