Wow Check this out

This popped up on my YouTube Channel this morning and I think you’ll agree these kids are amazing and deserve a like and subscribe on their YouTube channel.

I dunno, something seems fishy here. They are obviously not Old Order Amish or Mennonite, plus the production values are pretty polished.
But for a husband-and-wife duo, they have the classic C&W sound down cold!

I agree it’s Rose 's voice that blue me away. Cloud961 That girl could make a fortune on the outside.

Hi @BanJoe

Found this which may go some way to explain the production team behind the vocals

Hi @BanJoe seems there is more to this story check this out

Sorry, but I still don’t buy it.
“Amish rules.com!?!”

Blank page? @BanJoe I understand your scepticism though. That said there are a ton of video’s appearing on YouTube where Rose appears with others. This one in particular which might cause us to change our perception of the Amish community. Is this totally out of character or does it just not fit inside the BOX as we see them? Their values and lifestyle are different from mine and I respect them for retaining their traditions. I think if you poked a camera at a Scottish family it might surprise you to learn we don’t all wear kilts, play the bagpipes, eat haggis and talk like Mel Gibson who is Irish.

The thing is, we we live in an area with a significant Old Order Amish community, as well as a Mennonite population, who are not Old Order.
The underlying philosophy is “community.” The Amish are not opposed to modern things. They are opposed to things which break down community. Two men working a cross cut saw is better than one man working alone with a chain saw. Generally, musical instruments are shunned because they elevate people above the community & become a source of Pride, a deadly sin. There are a few exceptions, but guitars are usually not among them.
Internet usage is a different critter. They will use the internet for specific reasons, usually associated with pragmatic matters of rural life. However, they will not have a computer in the home. Like using a public phone, the public computer at the public library falls within their concept of community.
I hate to be cynical, but it smacks as a gimmick to me. They might be Amish in name, but not in action. That’s not unusual. We have a Catholic president that supports abortion and some Jewish politicians that love a good ham sandwich.
We all make choices.

I hear you brother. But as we are now well into the 21st Century perhaps times are changing for the Amish and Mennonite communities.

Here on the Scottish mainland religion is quite laid back nowadays. There remains much conflict between the Catholic & Protestant religions following the reformation. Particularly in the west of Scotland and in Northern Ireland where the Protestant church retains close links with Scotland and the British Crown and the Catholic Church is anti English and is aligned with the Pope in Rome. It has come to light in recent years that all the Religions here in the UK hold some very dark secrets from the past. Because of this and the ancient and troubled conflict between churches many Scot’s who still see themselves as Christian no longer worship in church.

That said (Wiki describes) The Outer Hebrides are a unique religious area in contemporary Scotland. The northern island (Lewis and Harris) is dominated by Calvinist ‘free churches’, and has been described as “the last bastion of Sabbath observance in the UK”. It is also home to a unique form of Gaelic psalm singing known as precenting. The southern islands of South Uist and Barra are the last remnants of native pre-Reformation Scottish Catholicism. Barra was once dubbed “the island the Reformation did not reach”.

The Outer Hebrides are also home to some of Britain’s most important pre-Christian religious sites. The most significant is the Callanish Stones on the isle of Lewis, which are notable megalithic sites dating back some 5000 years.

I can’t speak for this Amish couple or their community because I don’t know anything about their rules, religion or lifestyle. I simply enjoy their music however they make it.

As Bob once said, “the times they are a changing”.

Bob’s right, but the more things change, the more they stay the same.
You’re right as well. They make beautiful music together.
I showed the video to my wife. She’s been buying fresh eggs from an Amish family for the past two years. I only said “these two have a great sound.”
Her first comment was “I don’t think they’re Amish. She’s showing some leg.”
I don’t know how she noticed that before I did!:scream:
BTW- I love your Scots tidbits. I also love the film “Local Hero.”

Oh BTW if you haven’t watched it I highly recommend the animated movie “Brave” Disney Pixar. The Scottish Humour in that will have you falling off your chair. I believe it was created in Scotland. No Irish or American accents in this.
