World War 2 Banjo

Sorting through a bunch of files on an old hard drive I stumbled on this photo of a World War 2 banjo. I have no recollection of where I got this photo possibly the Royal Signals Museum. However what I can say is the red quadrant was the emblem of my former regiment 4th Division HQ & Signal Regiment which was based in Herford West Germany during my time with the regiment.

If you study the banjo closely you will see there are many references to Italy & Greece. This unit was not involved in the Normandy Landings on D Day and acquired the nickname The D Day Dodgers. I was going to include a video but the song includes some profanity. So I will leave it up to your own judgement if you want to search YouTube for The D day Dodgers.
