Why I Don't Play Music In Church

Because just when I think you have a handle on things, God reminds me that I don’t.

I know I’m kind of late here, just couldn’t help not saying something. In 2 Corinthians 12, the Apostle Paul shares about his “…thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.” He goes on to state that he had asked God three times to remove this flaw in his life. God’s reply, found in verse 9, is “…My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” (KJV) A real life example of this is my experience just a couple of days ago. A friend of mine and I played “I’ll Fly Away” for special music at the church we attend. We had planed an incredible ending. Now, although I’ve played banjo for 5 years, I’m only in the beginner track. When the time came, I completely obliterated the end lick. However, God was still able to use the song and our efforts to bring glory to Himself, which, ultimately, is all that matters. So, yes, scenes like these might cause us to shy away from using our talents for God’s glory, but if we understand that God can still use it and we are truly doing it for Him, we can serve Him with our very best, even if we do make some mistakes, or things don’t go exactly as planned. Please don’t take this comment as criticism, but rather encouragement!
