"Where Do You Get Your Ideas?"

I was thinking about how strange music can be. Take time, for example. I play in the present, but I’m living the future as I decide which note to play next, while being sure to play it in proper time, at the proper time. If that wasn’t enough to mess with my mind, along comes a couple of neuroscientists with a couple really good musicians. Then it gets worse.

“My Music Brain” featuring artists Sting and Michael Buble, takes us on a unique journey of discovery into how the brain uses music to shape the human experience and helps to define each stage of our lives.

It is a fascinating subject for sure! I have always been interested in how sound affects the human body and mind. For example, in Chinese medicine they discuss healing sounds that can be hummed or chanted to heal various organs in the body. Also the famous “ohmm” of meditation. How different frequencies cause powder to form geometric shapes. Sound and music seems to be a building block of our existence.

The information in the video is fascinating. Thank you for posting it. I enjoyed it. The part about about hit songs falling into 1 of 60 distinct patterns (or 16, I am not sure if the guy said 60 or 16), from the software company that analyzed the thousands of songs, is revealing.

It is weird that something we cannot see, touch, taste or feel could have such a profound impact on us.

It is also strange how types of music can make you sad, happy, energetic, or relaxed. It can spark a memory or take you to another place and time. Interesting how throughout history, different music has been associated with good or evil, rich or poor. It truly has defined who we are. Music has even been used in psychological warfare and now sound is even used as a weapon.
