What mics do "YOU" use?

Hey Yawl! I was wondering what mics Yawl use, what mics would be best for let’s say…Podcast/Vocal recording type of stuff?
Also, what mic do Yawl use for your instruments? I’m currently using “Shure SM57” Thought this would be a cool topic to talk about.

Thanks!
Kaden Albritton.

I don’t have anything set up for recording but for the past several years I’ve been playing live with a DPA 4099. I usually prefer the tone of a microphone to most pickups.

Hmmm… I guess it depends on what I am recording. For a podcast (vocal use) the SM7(B) is a wonderful microphone, but you can also use most kick drum dynamic microphones as they will often have a similar sensitivity and frequency response profile (smooth in the vocal range). For recording acoustic guitar, I prefer a condenser cardioid like the SM81 or possibly one of the large diaphram condenser cardioids like the MXR 4000 or if you have more money than Elan, then maybe a Neumann. Live PA performance calls for a very narrow cardioid dynamic (hypercardioid) mostly, but sometimes you can get away with a condenser as long as the main speakers are placed properly. :+1:

this is the mic I use for everything. I’m pretty old-school, so I like ribbon microphones a lot. This has solved the biggest problem in that it’s easy to harm the ribbon inside the mic… They actually put a little preamp in front of it so that you can’t damage it with that +48 V thing that a lot of other microphones require. I use this in my Podcasts and I use this for recording my guitar.
