What are y'all up to?

Yup!

I’m Repairing a cheap mandolin i got from a friend last fall. it was a right-handed mando. now i converted it to a left handed. The action is really really high so i had to do some Nut and Bridge Work. (This Mandolin doesn’t have a truss rod ) and it buzzes like a hornet on a light, so I’ve been trying to fix that. But it’s a new learning curve and I’m enjoying it!! :hammer_and_wrench::toolbox:

Had trigger finger surgery on Friday. A little awkward with the bandage, but could play a little clawhammer already on Saturday. Can take the bandages off on Monday and the stitches come out a week from Tuesday. It was my middle finger that kept locking and popping, so really looking forward to that annoyance going away. Just one of the joys of maturity.

That sounds like a super fast recovery. Yay!

Much easier to practice now. Not sure why the post surgery bandage was so large. For anyone dealing with trigger finger, I highly recommend the surgery. I’ve had shots several times in those fingers—with varying degrees of improvement. The shots hurt much more than waking up with a bandage. And the surgery is supposed to be the permanent cure. :crossed_fingers:t2:

Played four one-hour sets with The New Apostles of Bluegrass at the Mable House Harvest Festival. Long day but super fun! We played a couple gospel songs in each set. It was incredibly moving to see how all sorts of people were affected!

Heading down near Austin early tomorrow for a couple reasons. The main reason is I’m the keynote speaker at a private function, should be fun, and held at one of my favorite BBQ events.

But the other reason is that we JUST became Collings guitar/mando dealers! Their shop is in Austin and I’m going to lunch with the president and his team, then touring the workshop. Excited!

That’s exciting! Can’t wait to see which models you get in the store. I need a Collings someday!

We’re loading up for our festival next weekend in Hazlehurst, Georgia! Gonna be 5 days of amazing music and jamming, and looks like we’re going to be blessed with some perfect Georgia fall weather too! Y’ALL COME! Also will be raffling off this beautiful Recording King RD-318 guitar at the festival, very generously donated by @BanjoBen. (I took it out of the box to play a few chords last night while loading up festival stuff, and I thought, man I want to keep this thing! It would be the perfect guitar to teach on. I guess that’s not allowed… :disappointed:)

I do believe we have just the thing… you have enough mahogany guitars anyway, right?

I will be getting to all the forum threads soon, so thanks for your patience. Recovery/cleanup from a 60+ student Cabin Camp is legit :joy: Plus we’re launching all our “Month of Black Fridays” stuff this week. Also could use your prayers as I prepare 5 lectures and 2 sermons for a mission trip in a week or so. Heading back to Tapachula, Mex, this time teaching a course on preaching. Again, I’m doing all in Spanish, so it’s extra time for me to prepare. Love y’all, and thanks for your support of the site!

Wish I had something cool or fun to post about “what I’m up to” but the truth is I haven’t been able to play for a while. I saw a hand specialist last week and was diagnosed with “severe” Carpal Tunnel in both of my wrists. I can’t even shake a hand or make a fist right now and I have no feeling in 6 of my 10 fingers. The pain in my right hand is so bad at night I’ve got to sleep in a recliner. The good news is that I’ve got surgery scheduled for this Tuesday on my right hand and the left hand will be done about a month later. Anyway, that’s “what I’m up to.” I’d appreciate prayer.
