What are y'all up to?

Cuando hablo en español no puedo superar mi acento.
Gringo

I can say a few works in Spanish… taco, enchilada, burrito, you know, the important ones.

Tonight I’m going to a giant tamale and barbacoa feast. I’ll be the only gringo there…should be awesome.

Last night was amazing. I didn’t realize exactly what I was about to attend. It is an old old Mexican Catholic tradition called La Levantada. I was definitely out of my gringo Protestant comfort zone, but I love different cultures and it’s so kind for them to welcome me in like family.

After a ceremony that lasted near an hour, we ate. And we ate. Tamales, barbacoa, rice, beans, salsa verde, corn tortillas, atole de teja (a new treat for me!), y fruit salad con crema for dessert.

I can count on one hand the number of times annually I go to bed after 10pm. We started eating about 10. I’m paying for it a bit this morning, but very much worth it.

I was able to share a bit about the mission work I have to do in Mexico this November and I hope to spend more time with these folks.

Ah, you wonderful morning people… I think I can count on one hand the number of times I go to bed before 10pm  :joy:

The other night I stayed up the latest I ever had. It was 4:30 AM

Bluegrass jam with friends turned into a long game of Chameleon (anybody ever played that?) which turned into a deep theology/creationism/cosmos debate… things that just don’t happen in daytime hours you know!

Staying up late must be the Christian version of psychedelics. :joy:

I try to get 7 hours of sleep and I like to get up around 4:30, so do the math  It’s not that I want to go to bed early. It’s just that my morning self makes me.

I got up at 3:20am for 4 years to meet a group of guys at 3:50 to work out, but 2020 put an end to that. My pattern during those years was to go to bed around 9-9:30 and catch a 15-20 minute snooze right after lunch in my office chair…rejuvenating.

Sometimes I feel like I go to bed during what y’all would still consider afternoon

I love Joe Robinson’s story of getting up at 4am every day in the Australian bush, taking a cold shower and practicing for 4 hours before school. That dude has earned every bit of skill and recognition he’s got.

Once I tried the concept of a “caffeine nap” (drinking coffee right before a short nap, which apparently is supposed to make you super energized and boost your productivity and all that typical stuff). However, I’m terrible at falling asleep so I basically drank coffee and laid there for 15 minutes :joy:

I typically only sleep during the day when I’m sick. Perhaps that’ll change as I age…

I used to never be able to take naps until we started attending bluegrass events. Then I learned that I can because I have to. A couple 4 hour nights and you learn how to nap :joy:

My army days taught me to nap anywhere, anytime even if it’s only for 5 mins. In Scotland we call naps forty winks I am just about ready for one now and I just woke up

Everyone is different but yep, things do change

Hi @BanjoBen If you have a Twitter account my granddaughter describes this - Las relaciones: a lovely resource to learn Spanish idioms and vocab.

I’d appreciate some prayers. I’m up against perhaps the biggest work/stress week that I’ve ever had.

I’m heading to Nashville today. I’m recording a month’s worth of lessons on Monday/Tuesday and hosting Kenny Smith Tuesday for a Pro Picker Case Study and live streaming event that evening.

Thursday-Saturday I’m producing an album for a super talented writer/singer (country stuff, think Jerry Jeff Walker/Townes Van Zandt meets Waylon). This is his sophomore album and there’s a whole lot riding on this record for his career. We’re recording at the newly remodeled Sony studio and I have all the best pickers/engineers in the world. We’re prepared, but it’s gotta go right.

I have a ton of house stuff to do including fixing a water heater, HVAC unit acting up, etc.

There’s some fun stuff happening, too. I’m taking this young man backstage for the Friday night Opry as a guest of Ricky Skaggs. That’s always fun and I’m excited to watch his eyes light up on the wings of the stage.

Exciting, but stressful. This week requires way more energy, talent, resources than I have, and I seem to find myself in that situation quite a bit. It keeps me dependent. Thanks for the prayers.
