Well you like Sideline, and the fiddler smokes weed!
What are y'all up to?
I actually liked Daniel Greeson better but at least Jamie is a good player. I also never said I didn’t like Tony Rice.
Those old Tony Rice videos make me feel sad for him too. He was great at what he did and it’s sad to see him losing it. FYI, yesterday is OVER (phew)… but even in a new day when I’m back to my normal viewpoints, there’s a lot to appreciate in those TR videos and it’s not fair to compare those to Jake! Tony did his best at everything he COULD do. As I said the other day the person who invents a style can’t also take it as far as it could ever go. Someone has to already build upon a previously laid foundation to get that much of a head start.
Ok, everyone feel free to post their favorite Tony and Jake video…
Y’all already know what my favorite TR video is, but here’s my favorite of Jake:
Dang, there goes the best take this side of home depot
Who are you taking lessons with?
Hate to break it to you, but a lot of bluegrassers do. That’s why it’s called grass…
Isn’t he mormon? And if not, did he tell you he doesn’t smoke or drink? I know several in Ricky’s band do both (although within reason)
I took several lessons with Jake (guitar lessons)
I have no idea, but he is from Utah.
That’s really hard! Maybe this one…
And probably,
I say no need to evaluate their personal lives here, we should keep this about our favorite players - musically speaking.
I agree
This is my personal favorite Jake video. Since y’all are talking about that.
Oh, wait. You already posted that one Proves it’s a good one!
This is my favorite video of Jake on mandolin, I watch it all the time!
It’s been a busy summer. My wife and I have picked strawberries, blueberries, and now figs. We have canned green beans, spaghetti sauce, and salsa. The deer wiped out my purple hull peas. The grandkids have kept us busy. I’ve made too many freezers of homemade ice cream. I’ve been trying to learn some basic swing chords. I wish I’d learn to play bar chords 20 years ago.
There are also plenty of great chords in swing progressions that you don’t have to barre…
We did a “spur of the moment” drive to Jackson, MS Friday to see the band Daniel Donato and Cosmic Country. Definitely not an acoustic band (there was an upright bass played for a few songs) but they were awesome. The band was telecaster, keyboards, drums, and a bass. Daniel Donato is a young telecaster guy that plays a jamband style, a little singing and then extended instrumental solos.
Irronically this makes 3 shows in a row for me that had no mandolin involved at all. Of course one show was Tommy Emmanuel so it was just him and a guitar, and was a duo house concert with Becky Buller/Ned Luberecki. I guess I can’t really complain that I didn’t hear a mandolin when there are plenty of guitar, banjo, and fiddle sounds.
I have a day off so I finished several tasks and decided to meet my friends. We often play board games and I usually win. It’s not only because I am good at such games but also because I cheat sometimes https://word-finder.com/words-with-friends-cheat-tool/. It’s really fun to see their reaction, lol.
Fortunate to be working about as much as a guy can. When the sun shines, make hay.
We did manage to make it to a far away land and back as a family, which was just delightful. Weather was great and I saw things my eyes had never seen before.
Any guesses?
I insist (to myself) that I find 20-30 minutes to practice guitar every day. I took a break from the more challenging stuff and am wrapping up the Intermediate of Cherokee Shuffle. I may submit a break to the Bluegrass Coalition for that one or not.
Some work travel coming up, which I’m pretty lukewarm about.
Today I dove off 9 miles into bear-infested Montana river bottom to fly fish for rainbows in the south fork of the Two Medicine river. It was amazing.
That looks like a blast, beautiful picture.
