Well because you’ve probably never had someone yell after a solo. It’s especially fun when you know you’re playing for other musicians that can appreciate what you are doing.
I actually HAVE had someone yell after a solo, at Ben’s camp the crowd goes wild for the student concerts. I enjoyed that though, since it was far more about the stage presence of the performance and not the music… my solo was trash.
Hey who knows, mighta been some crazy cheap thing, but man i hope that wasn’t some nice Martin or something like that.
I can imagine a huge crowd of people going crazy the whole time would mess me up and get me out of the groove, but I’ve never had that and probably never will but when they cheer after the solo, that’s fun.
Ok, so it’s your first gig but not your first time playing for a crowd.
Shoulda played a Jake solo instead of a Tony one.
Yeah.
It was a banjo solo you idiot!
Oh no my apology’s. HEY!! Still a Jake solo!!
I’m surprised you even play banjo if Tony Rice didn’t
I don’t know any Jake licks on the banjo though.
I can play a few transposed Tony licks, but that’s pretty disrespectful.
oh boy we better get over to the spiral if we’re gonna start this again.
Me too. It seems very disrespectful don’t it.
I am GLAD you brought that up, because I have essentially stopped playing banjo (though not just cause the Tony Rice Unit didn’t have a banjo). But the reasons are several, namely pain in the picking hand.
That’s not normal - I would suggest a lesson with Jake.
If I do have someone check my picking hand out, it would probably have to be someone in person.
Honestly though, it might have something to do with tension or a bad position. You should ask a professional about it because it shouldn’t hurt for no reason.
Doesn’t have to be… we changed our positions over Skype. And then when we saw Jake in person he showed us what we needed to change/not change.
