Been really hot here the last few days (115 degrees). I went on a little scorpion hunt in my front yard tonight and found a few of the little boogers. I was thinking that I have an old mandolin that has a rattlesnake rattle in it. Supposed to keep bugs out I think. Wonder if one of these guys would do the same or improve the tone😂

I was in SW Utah last week and it was 112 degrees. As an Eastcoaster, I had never experienced the desert in July before. I honestly miss Utah’s hot dry air compared to the 95° with 60% humidity.

Yes, I’m in Nevada and we have been in the 100’s for weeks. We have had some humidity too due to the El Niño stuff. About 30%, but it makes it miserable. Like living in a microwave.
Lately I have been listening to Zulu Gospel Choir. I am finding their voices are very soothing to listen to.

Took a nice walk through the Nevada desert today with the family. Saw a wild horse drinking from a spring. She let us get pretty close. It was a beautiful day. The heat has subsided slightly. Thought I would share…

Update on our Filter of Hope mission trip to Panama City, Panama. We’ll be on a plane at 6am tomorrow morning the 19th. We’ll return by Saturday the 26th. We’ll distribute much needed free water filters to families that live nearby. We will also give them a second free gift of the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Your continued prayers are needed. We represent the local Church, who have already done the ground work and will be our interpreters. We praise God for these brothers and sisters in Christ who invited us to work with them.

I’ve been enjoying playing piano a lot. Here’s a quartet we did at church last night. If any of you play I would appreciate pointers! What I do in the left hand is not really “proper”, mostly just hitting octaves.
I do tend to rush/play ahead of the beat. Also, man it’s tricky to give attention to singing while playing any instrument… practice will help with that.
May I heed the song’s message as well.

I posted this on my personal facebook page this week, but wanted to share it here:
Last Sunday, after a lengthy process, I was installed as an elder at Kilgore Bible Church. There are qualifications for elders (or pastors/overseers) in Scripture, and the leadership & folks at KBC believe I meet them. For that, I’m humbled and thankful.
But few of them know my past. Few know where I once was, what I once loved, what I once did. Many of you do. My wife does. Most of all, I do, which is why it’s so blatantly obvious that my call & confirmation is ultimately none of my doing. It’s not a product of my own striving, righteousness, or wisdom. By God’s grace I was called, by his grace do I stand, and only by God’s grace will I continue.
It’s funny what folks assume about pastors, like they’re some kind of spiritual supermen. I cling to the grace of God to see the end of each day. Where I stumble, it’s all me. Where I do not, it’s all of Him. He’s got the rest of my life to continue pruning, disciplining, and humbling me. May it be so, and may he use me & the other elders to lead, protect, defend, and sacrifice for the body at KBC.
Finally, thank God for my wife. She is the greatest visible picture of God’s sovereign grace in my life.
