Wind & water make waves on Lake Erie when the gales of November come.
And the Johnson Mountain Boys sing about them.

Those traditional songs sound great but, would have liked it if they would have placed more emphasis on the guitar just to give it co-equal time, or at least somewhat of a more prominent role.

You’re not the first guitar player to have banjo envy.

And Fiddle, and mandolin. Maybe see it as guitar discrimination. :slightly_smiling_face:

Then… THEY came along…

I moved to Indiana from northern Ohio. I spent a lot of time on Lake Erie - mainly Walleye fishing. (some of the best in the world) There are a number of islands off the coast of Sandusky (between Cleveland and Toledo) that are popular vacation spots. My wife & I were celebrating an anniversary on Kelly’s Island and were due to check out. Lake Erie became so rough so fast, that the ferry stopped running & we had to spend another night on the island until things calmed down. What most folks don’t realize is that although Lake Erie is massive, it is shallow on the western end - so it does not take as much as one might think to create those stormy waters. Of course in the Gordon Lightfoot song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” it was “fully loaded for Cleveland.”

Yeah, Lake Erie behaves differently. Being shallow makes it easier for the wind to move the water. Try sailing it with a strong wind at your stern & a beam sea!
I live near Lake Ontario. It has its own quirks & oddities.
The Great Lakes truly are spectacular.

BTW-You are 100% correct about the walleye fishing!

Dang hippies!

Lot of interesting aspects about the great lakes. One theory, not sure how you could prove it is, Lake Michigan started to form over two billion years ago. I have heard people debate if that’s the case. You hear the phrase thrown around much these days, “follow the science,” which would be logical provided all scientists agree with one another which is not always the case.

One thing I’ve wondered about is if Lake Michigan is considered part of the state of Michigan? I tried looking it up but couldn’t find an answer? Michigan is the eleventh largest state in land mass but doesn’t look it. That changes a bit when you factor in is an upper section some may forget about. Being number eleven puts it just ahead of Minnesota and Utah. Even with the two sections combined doesn’t look all that big. Also figure Lake Michigan is within the U.S. borders which am thinking could lend weight to it being part of the states total mass, but this I cannot say without guessing so, still left wondering???

Great pictures by the way! And Buckeye, not sure if you are an Ohio State Buckeye fan or not, but they still are in the running to gain a playoff spot. If one of two teams lose their game, then although still has to be voted on, should put them back in. If that doesn’t happen still could get in via the vote. I would vote for them for this reason. Thy lost to a higher ranked team than USC when they lost to Utah. The thing that some think aligns against them is, they lost their game later in the year. Voters always factor that in.

@JA1 I’m sad to say I was at the game yesterday. I’m pretty confident that TCU and/or USC will lose their next game, but I’d hate to see my Buckeyes back into the playoff that way.

Since I don’t have a horse in this race, I think I can comment without favoring one side or the other, but here is a fact. Last season Georgia was beaten by Alabama 41-24 in the Southeast conference championship game. Given that was their only loss, and contrary to what has been put out there, was not an elimination game. That allowed Georgia to get voted back in, and subsequently go on to win the national championship game, in a rematch with Alabama.

I still say Ohio State is a better team than Michigan, and I’m sure would like a chance at a rematch. If they got a rematch and turn the tables, would pretty much wipe away the stigma of having backed in. The Buckeyes are still alive and well for now, with some big-time players. They just gave up too many big plays in that game. To keep them out is to say they are not a top four team, which I would say they are. Even if they don’t get any help, and those two teams win, could still make a case for them based on the precedence of how Georigia got in last season. Will have to wait and see.

Being a Purdue fan, my team is now in the Big Ten championship game. Don’t really expect them to win but being indoors favors their passing game. Outdoors under bad conditions they would have no chance. Purdue is a so so team who emerged from a very average Big Ten West, but I believe will be outmatched against Michigan. They don’t have enough defense to stop Michigan. Hope I am wrong.

Yep it’s true, Lake Erie is quite shallow in a lot of places. I live about 45seconds from the lake shore and I can testify the fishing is amazing. I live in Port Burwell and we go straight out into the lake from there and pull in so many wallye. its such a blast.

I’m happy they included Dan Crary.
I’ve always felt he was highly underrated when it came to guitar playing discussions.
