Flatt & Scruggs interviewed on radio station WLOE in Leeksville NC. It says the date is 1961, but as one of the comments points out, they mention the Ballad of Jed Clampett, which came out in '62…so this is probably 1963.

Interestingly, they never refer to “Hillbillies.” It’s always “the Beverlys.”
