What is the best way to wear a heavy banjo while standing up, to reduce back strain? (Is this really a new topic?) Thoughts?
Wearing your banjo
A properly adjusted strap worn over the left shoulder with good posture is probably your best bet (unless of course you feel more comfortable with it just over the right shoulder—many pros do that but it’s always been uncomfortable for me). Also, a Neotech strap may help out:
Thank you, Michael. I did get a Neotch strap at Jake’s suggestion (from a video).
Do you have thoghts about the banjo hanging waisthigh versus higher up on the chest? (No fat stomach yet to rest it on)…
Also, do you have suggesetions of which brackets to put the strap on to get it resting neatly at the right angle (which I assume is about 45 degrees)? I find I have to put the front of the strap below the neck to keep put it upwards, but it seems a little awkward. Would love to know what you and others do.
I talk about it here: https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/banjo-boot-camp
As I say in the lesson, I like the banjo at essentially the same height whether I’m sitting or standing, same for guitar.
I do not like the forward end of the banjo strap beneath the neck and it causes the banjo to often tip forward.
Thank you, Ben! That link seems blank?
Nevermind. Found it here: https://banjobenclark.com/lessons/banjo-boot-camp–overview-holding-and-strap-banjo
Super helpful! Thank you!
