Vitual Guitar camp

I would like to ask some questions about the virtual guitar camp with Jake Workman. Where can I do that. I want to learn more about Swing chords

Right here. Just post your questions @BanjoBen will get back to you when he is available.

Yes I am interested in learning more about swing chords. When I watch the video explaining the Tab that Jake uses and then his example demo he is going up the neck but the tabs don’t show any frets past the 4th fret. I would really like to learn these chords up the neck, it sounds so sweet and interesting.

I think I have answered my own questions on these tabbed swing chords. The more I play the tab, making sure to play the bass note appropriately the more I understand that the tab is one way to play it and here is another way to do the same thing. I can hear it now when I practice the tab. Thank you
It will take time to get my fingers use to these chord changes before I venture too far up the neck.
Cheers

I believe the point is that he is teaching closed chord shapes, which can be moved anywhere on the neck to get a different chord. So whatever chord you need, take the shape that matches the kind of chord it is (e.g. dom 7, diminished, major 6th, etc) and then move it up to get the chord you need.

Example: Say you need a B flat major 6 chord.
• Find the major 6 chord shape.
• Ask, “What string is the root note on?” (In this case, it’s the low E string).
• Then find a B flat note on the low E string (which would be the 6th fret), and make the chord in that position.

What M&M said about closed shapes is spot on. It’s great when those lightbulbs turn on. I didn’t see the Jake camp, but I found this to be a wonderful lesson on (closed) swing chords:

and this for spicing up more “normal” songs

Ben and Jake were phenomenal as always! but at 73 I really did appreciate what Tim had to say about physical difficulties - arthritis and such - and maintaining hand/forearm strength to keep playing. It is amazing for me that if I’m not regular at the gym, my playing doesn’t seem as sharp. You younger guys will understand that in about 20-30 years!
