TX bound trip pics

So, yesterday got off to a late-ish start. Went out to Tyler, TX so see the Rose Garden. Though the main entrance/parking is undergoing remodeling, we were able to enter thru the garden side. Due to the season, the roses weren’t in full bloom, but also due to the mild fall we’ve had, several were still blooming & it was a nice day. The smell of roses was definitely in the air!

After rose garden, drove thru a historical district with red brick streets, which was pretty cool. Here’s an article from 2015 regarding that for you history fact people:

We were originally headed to “Stanley’s Famous Pit BBQ” for lunch and they were so busy there was NO parking anywhere near the building, or even on adjacent streets, so we abandoned that idea. Wanting to check out the Buc-ees phenomenon, we headed towards Terrell TX, and figured we’d stop somewhere along the way. (Pretty sorry when a mega gas station is the destination…:confounded::crazy_face:!)

Still wanting to try TX BBQ, we ended up at “Brisket Love BBQ & Icehouse” in Lindale TX. The food (Brisket stuffed baked tater w all the fixings & jalapeños, jalapeño & cheese sausage, hand battered onion rings) was excellent!

Next up - the aforementioned trip to check out the Buc-ees. We’ve got them in Ala, but never went there before. It was huge. It had everything and then some! And nope didn’t eat there, but browsed around, picked up some cinnamon glazed pecans, fudge, coffee, & gassed the truck. (BTW the restrooms were impressively large & very clean!)

Our little day trip covered about 200 miles. Saw our first “75 MPH” speed limit sign. Saw some pretty scenery, & some of the usual road trip stuff such as roadkill… call me weird, but roadkill totals were 4 deer, 1 coyote, and 1st time ever seeing a hog, yes, 1 HOG dead on the side of the road! (Don’t worry, no pics taken of that !)

Looking fwd to tomorrow, 1st day of camp :slightly_smiling_face::notes:!

My oldest daughter moved to Tyler back the beginning of the year and we went to eat at Stanley’s…I can only vouch for the brisket but it is fantastic.

Hey Simone,
We’re living vicariously through your trip! Thanks for all the great pics and stories! Our long awaited RV has been pushed back to March. I signed up for the late April banjo only camp and have reservations at 7 points based on your recommendation. We need to get together and have you educate us on RV stuff!

Have a safe rest of your trip!

Based on the lack of parking, it looked like it’d be fantastic! Could smell all the good BBQ smells just driving by! “Free Smells!” Haha!

Jeff! Been thinking of yall & wondering if you guys decided to do the RV thing! 7 Points was great & rustic, campers/sites weren’t parked on top of each other like at some places. You’ll like it there!
Congrats at getting in the April Banjos only Camp! And sure thing - we’ll get together - holler at me when it’s a good time for you two, (as we know you’re getting ready for the upcoming wedding!)
Anyway, glad you liked the trip pics & narrative!!
“Vicariously” - that’s awesome !

I feel sad for that MacPherson guitar… it doesn’t get as much attention as it used to :frowning:

What ever happened to it anyway? Same with that Tony Wray model guitar, and the old Stealth style banjo he played in the old videos

I bet it is stashed under a bed somewhere. I have a hunch he hasn’t gotten rid of it. He might even still use it for a plug-in worship guitar. They are typically phenomenal instruments, but not a traditional bluegrass sound.

@Simone thanks for sharing. This thread is getting my wife interested in a Texas trip. I’m weak minded and can be talked into an extended road trip on a moment’s notice.

Yes, that is the song he was referencing. My point being that only us obscure super fans would get it lol
