Anyone here dealt with any trigger finger symptoms? Wondering if recent heavy guitar playing has brought it on. It’s my middle finger on my left hand. I’m sadly realizing I’m no kid anymore- age 62. Just looking for stretches or any help. Thanks
Trigger Finger?
I know several folks have dealt with it here through the years, hope they read and offer some advice! If it gets bad enough I believe there’s a surgery to relieve it.
I have trigger fingers on both my right and left hands—mainly the middle fingers. I don’t think that playing causes it. I’m 65 and age seems to be the culprit. I’ve had shots several times. Painful, but effective. The triggering did return after a year or two, though. I had surgery last summer on my right hand. No pain as they put you into a twilight sleep, and it relieved the triggering right away (and it’s supposed to be a permanent cure). My finger was stiff for a while though and required daily stretching, but after six months it feels great. I’d recommend surgery, but some doctors may want you to try the shots first. Here’s a pic of the surgery.
Nice! Whenever I have surgery (two open heart & a couple others), I try to get the doctors to stitch me up so I have a “Z” scar. I want to tell the ladies I survived an encounter with Zorro.
They never do it. Just mumble something about “not covered” & send me home looking like Dr. Frankenstein’s practice sessions.
Funny you should bring up that topic @BanJoe Prior to my two emergency ops I was told I needed keyhole surgery during the height of Covid19 epidemic. I declined the surgery then because I thought the risks were too high. My keyhole surgery scar is ten inches long and meanders like the river Nile.
Thanks for the responses! Not a fan of possible surgery but glad it’s treatable
Hooper is “the man” for finger injuries and recoveries. He has gotten me through several of them. I haven’t watched this particular video (I searched for it based on your topic), but whatever he has to say will be better than anything I will:

Update on a thread I started. My good friend who is an orthopedic surgeon gave me a cortisone injection at the base of the finger giving me problems. It cured my whole problem. He told me that cortisone can actually cure and not merely treat the problem. Back to playing guitar after a few week layoff.
That’s Awesome!
Yay. Go God! It is pretty cool you have a good friend like that.
Glad it worked for you! I had the same shot and it cured my first couple occurrences (ring fingers). Also had the cortisone shots when my middle fingers started triggering. One took okay, but the other triggered again within a year. Simple outpatient surgery has successfully fixed that one. Hope you avoid future occurrences, but don’t be bummed if you do. One way or another, it’s a treatable issue. Best to you.
Thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate it.
