Thoughts on the Gold Tone BG-250

Greetings! Looking for info on the BG-250. I just picked up a used one for $650 (:canada: dollars). It appears to be an upgrade from the CC-100R I regret selling because I was frustrated with my progress. I decided to give it another shot as a Gold Pick member and I am so glad I did. I currently have an Epiphone MB-100 and I found out you really do get what you paid for. Also, the fret board is pretty thin. I was hoping to get the Gold Tone OB-150WF from the General Store, but I can’t justify the price at this point in my learning. Thanks!

Hi @BubbaFett Rob I am not familiar with the BG-250. But I am the proud owner of the OB 3 Twanger which I purchased from @BanjoBen General Store https://store.banjobenclark.com/ several years ago.

On checking Eagle Music Store here in the UK it would seem the BG-250 model is on the lower end of the Goldtone range. Sold second hand for £850 RRP £1,100.00. If it has a good tone and you are happy with it, it it should serve you well as your learning. banjo Good Luck

I don’t know anything about that banjo. I just had to chime in to say I really dig that name! Bubba Fett. HAHAHA!!!

It arrived today and the first thing I noticed was how heavy it feels compared to what I previously had. Sounds and looks great. I am looking forward to the journey with her.

gif @BubbaFett Rob, Since it’s new to you would be wise to get a Banjo Luthier to check it out and do a setup.

Thanks. I have reached out to get this done. It’s weird, at first it wasn’t staying in tune but then I sat down and practiced for about an hour and it was fine. Still getting it looked over and going to put new strings on so I know that is taken care of.

If the strings are new, it’s expected for them to not stay in tune well for a while. That’s why we stretch them. Check out around the 16 minute mark here to see Ben talking about it.
